Yeah! I was able to extend 2 of his 3 naps today, the second one with some work, but I am letting him sleep a little more! Thank you everyone! I shushed him and put pressure on his legs and rubbed his chest. And then left him alone and finally he transitioned after 40 minutes!

Tonight may be another story, but I will take this as a success for today!

Yippee!!! Well done. You're right to be realistic but it is the start of longer independent sleep.

So less progress today. Took full first nap, but could not prolong second nap and so took him to the store and he slept a little. Now at third nap, I am trying to see what happens if I do not go in... He awoke after 45 minutes, made some fussy noises, very few wimpy cries, and then is now just lying there quiet, going in and out of stage 2 sleep. I have a video monitor or else I would think he was asleep! I worry going in his room and shushing him when he is not fussing may interupt his self settling and going to back to sleep on his own... I did that yesterday and then he cried like crazy to get up- any suggestions?

Turn off the video!!!! Seriously I would only turn it on when he's crying. I could never have a video monitor I'd drive myself crazy.

But I agree with not going in unless he's really crying. Do you recognise his mantra cry yet?

Sorta... His mantra sounds like whining I think... Yeah the video gives me too much info
And he fell asleep by himself after 30 minutes until next feed! What a good boy. Thank you all south for helping me finally calm down (for now)!

I agree - no video!  Those things are a blessing and a curse!  I think they can make you overly obsessive about sleep times ;)  You see some EASY listings that have S: 1032 - 1114am.  Too accurate!
