I'm sure i read somehere you shouldn't give little kids glass- and i would think that extended to china- in case they bite it... i sometimes give hamish a sip from a mug- but it's a really odd thing to enforce!

Another sound piece of advice from Tracy (and likely elsewhere too).

My thoughts exactly.

I was wondering if most of the kids were older...
Most of them are still pretty young.  There's one the same age as DS, one 7 months, another 18 months, quite a few toddlers (but older ones) and then the closer to teen ones.  I think it's good there is a mix...if only they could recognise that some things are appropriate for one age but not another.

DS uses normal glasses and mugs at home and has been for a long time, it is so up to the individual child and their capabilities but I have to say at a super active play group then having breakables, no matter what the age of the kids, is just asking for trouble. Someone is going to break a cup at some point and it could even be an older kid who does it. What is the reason for all this controlling? Surely the 7 month old is not using an open cup. Anyway, FWIW just flout the rules, who cares? Do you think they would really make a big deal about it? Also - I don't like the running around with food thing. For one thing its not proper manners and secondly its choking hazard, duh!
