11 months old wakes twice every night for bottle
« on: May 01, 2012, 02:47:23 am »
Hi, Adam is over 11 months old and still wakes in the night for bottles, we were expecting him to sleep through the night by now.
He has 3 solid meals and snacks through the day and eats plenty, aside from that he has a bottle after breakfast, before bed and then a dream feed.
We've been trying to stop the dream feed and brought it as early as 9pm but now he wakes around 1am and 4-5am for bottles, I try to give him his dummy but he starts crying and only settles after bottle.
Anyone has any advice on how to stop the dream feed and stop him waking at night?
Thanks

Hi hun,
It sounds like he is needing a feed to get back to sleep at night and the bottle has become a prop. You probably know this already though ;)
If you want to try it gently you can first reduce the volume you are giving at one or both feeds. This works for some but not other LOs.

Alternatively you will need to sleep train so that he can settle without the bottle when he wakes in the night. IIWM and your LO has always had the botle I would just do anything I could to get him to sleep without feeding. APOP ie rocking, cuddles, shhing/patting... once you have broken the feed to sleep association you can then most likely easily wean the cuddles if he wants these.
OR you can jump straight to PU/PD - At this age is just PD or PD/WO. This may or may not involve more crying...TBH both will involve a lot of crying but you will be there with your LO helping him through it, and I found the first time we had to do WI/WO with my touchy boy it only took 3 nights. 1hr the first, 20mins the next then 2 mins ;) (He was an independent sleeper before though so it could be harder KWIM?)
