Thinking of Moving 13.5mo from bf to bottle..
« on: May 28, 2012, 09:34:48 am »
Hi all,

Wondered if I could get a bit of advice.

Dd is 13.5 months and has bf up to now.
Solids are established and she drinks water from a sippy during the day.

I "think" my bf days are drawing to a close... I am shattered and if I happen to wear a low top (rare lol) she is asking, by tugging and it wearing me out....

Having not done bottles I don't know what she would need or how much at this age?.... She does drink cows milk, but mch prefers formula (growing up milk) and I am totally fine with that as she eats lots of cheese & yogurt.

Our eating looks like this
Sometimes wakes about 5.30 has a feed the b2s
W/u bf top up
Breakfast an hour later
Snack just before nap
Nap
W/u (dropping this bf at the mo)
Snack
Lunch an hour later
Snack before nap (if she wants usually small)
W/u
Water (any snacks here ruin tea)
Tea an hour or so later
B/f before bed

Thankyou!!!
Claire

I wouldnt introduce a bottle at that age as bottles are supposed to be phased out by the age of 1.  You could get a special new cup just for milk and let her drink from that.  From the age of 1 around 350mls of milk is advised (in the UK, as it differs from country to country!). It doesnt have to all be in drink form as milk in cereal, cheese, yoghurt, etc counts towards it too.  3 portions of dairy should provide the recommended calcium.

Agree with Seona, no need to go to the bottle at this age.  Never even introducing it is the best way to proceed.

Think of all the clean up and hassle you will save by never having bottles.  Bonus :)
