Well we've been a bit hit and miss with out short am/long pm routine.

J teething again, cutting his third tooth last Thursday and 3 more top teeth almost through! On Friday night he was awake from 3.15 with teeth so i just let him sleep in the am, but capped at 1hr 15 and still got 1.5hrs in pm. Then we had cpl of days where we only had one nap as we were out and about in the afternoon and he is toooooo nosy to sleep when out and about. Having an idea he might do that i let him have long am naps so he was bit more rested then had 5.30/6pm BT!!! Worked though and he slept well at night with usual 6am WU's.

Example yesterday
WU 6am
Nap  - 9.45 - 10.20 (later than usual but at MIL's....)
Out at seaside so he wouldn't nap in stroller, prob not helped by long am nap but it was highly unlikely he would have slept even with short am nap
Fell asleep in carseat 6pm on way home. Straight home, bottle and bed at 7pm
WU 6am

Today we're in same situation so i'm trying a "planned" 1 nap day....eeeeeek! Before i moved to short am/long pm he was easily getting to 11am before tired signs so that's what i'm trying again today. He got to this time no bother and was asleep almost straight away, and we have JUST passed the 35 min mark.....

Wow, great first nap! I wouldn't cap AT ALL when you first go to one nap - in fact, I've only started nap capping in the past couple of weeks and my LO has been on one nap for several months now. She would regularly do 2.5-3hrs when she first went to one nap.

Sounds like your LO is ready for the jump but do keep an eye out for signs of OT creeping in, and be prepared to throw in a catnap every few days if you need to :)

Thanks for that Pap, he actually did 3hrs  :o I was so pleased.  He went to bed at seven and woke about 6 as normal. I didn't hear him during the night so if he did have NW he was happy and self settled.

Yesterday went like this
WU 6am
nap 11-2
BT 7pm

Gonna try the same today, and see how we get on and will keep eye out for OT. Suspect we will need a mixture of 1/2 nap days but we're definately getting there  ;)

Hiya Papaya,

I don't know if you had a chance to see my post from a couple of days ago, i know you guys have mountains of calls on your time. My LO is just over 10.5 months.

After having a short night Sunday he did go back to sleep after an hour until 7.10, so decided to ask nursery to do a one nap day yesterday, which was pretty sucessful, certainly more so that our recent 2 nap days!

7.10 WU (alhtough only 9.10 hours total sleep after resisting bt after 2 nap day + ew for 1 hour)
12:45 nap 2 hours
7.05 BT - out like a light

2 short nw before midnight so I guess he was ot but then slept through until 5.50 - which is pretty good for him.

So going to try a one nap day again.  In general he's always seemed to cope best with long am A time and then short A time until bed. So I'm wary about making his nap too early in the day, even if he has an earlier WU time like today. What do you think?

Well today has gone well so far. J napped from 11.05 to 1.20 so I think 2.15 is not bad. Think I might aim for a 6.30 bt to tonight.

Trinity sounds like you're in a similar situation to me. I'd be tempted to do same again if it worked yesterday, I know it can take a few days for them to settle and swapping around can be misleading.

Hi Trinity, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. This may be too late, but I would pull that nap earlier tbh - I'd be afraid of an OT nap. 7 hours would be a VERY long morning A time! I'd do an 11.30 nap and EBT if necessary to try and get a longer night. Even if your LO has never tacked on in the past, many babies do when they first go to one nap (mine did, to my utter amazement!).

WW, glad you got another good nap today!

Hi Papaya, thanks for the reply.

Well I think we've done ok today - although tonight will be the test, he has made it past the 1 hour mark, which is a good start

12.20-2.40 nap
6.55 bt (35-45 mins earlier than normal) Literally did bath, bottle and bed as soon as we got back from nursery. He took about 15 mins to go to sleep, but no tears, so I've got my fingers crossed.

It was a whopping morning A time though. After so many months of EW I daren't even dream that LO would start sleeping longer at night!

Morning ladies and thanks for the well wishing.

Well - he had a good night in terms of no nw which was great. But then up for the day at 5.20 - boo!  I did try and bring him into bed with me (I know  ::) !!!) as if he wakes before 5.30 I can generally get him to have another sleep cycle after an hour. But he was having none of it.

What's the best plan if he wakes that early? He was already looking tired by the time I dropped him at nursery, so there's no way he'll make it to 12.30 today.  If I do 11.30 I'm worried it's too long a stretch til bedtime as he struggles with long A times to bed.  Nursery have suggested a 9.30/45 nap but cap at 30 mins to try and preserve a good pm nap. What do you ladies think?

Hope J had a good night ww.  Does sound like we are in the same boat!

This sounds like a good plan to me :) He should be well ready for another nap after lunch then.

Thanks Papaya - fingers crossed.

Just hoping by doing this at capping at 30 mins rather than 45, he doesn't do what he did on Saturday and refuse the pm nap althogether.

I found there was a big difference for my LO in capping at 45 and at 30 mins. She would want a much shorter A time after 30, as it's not even one sleep cycle.

Hiya, you were right, the 2 nap day worked well.

5.20 Wu
9.40 nap 30 mins
2.20 nap 1.40
7.30 bt

So do you just kind of decide whether it's a one or two nap day based on the time he wakes up, so for us close to 6 is a one nap day?
