8.5wo habitual nw?
« on: June 08, 2012, 11:38:07 am »
since her gs earlier this week she's been waking at 11:30pm every night! last feed is around 7 . last night I tried to see if she'd go back to sleep, which she did after about 30min, only to wake again 30min later, so i tried again, same thing. she was doing her tired cry, so i figured she wasn't hungry. finally at 145am i fed her.

wake and E 6am
S 7ish
E 915am
A
S1020 doing errands - drifted in and out starting around1145
E 1215pm
A
S 130, but drifted in and out until 2
E 330
A
S 445-530pm
E 6pm
bath and jammies
E 7
S by 745
then she woke at 1130pm

thoughts? I think I might try to get her to go down earlier. I don't DF. Thanks

Does she have a NF? or is this the NF that your referring too.

If this is the only feed in the night then I bet she is hungry. Not many 2 mth olds can go through the night without a feed. :-\

Agree with Sarah.

She is clearly hungry hun.  As a general rule, you should not expect them to go longer at night than they can during the day in terms of feeding frequency - at least until 3/4 months of age.

If it has been more than 3 hrs, I would go ahead and feed her.

In all honesty, 4.5 hrs from her last feed is amazing at this age.

In terms of feeds, most LO's will need 2 NF's plus a DF at this age and the cluster would just be phasing out.  So, if you are not doing a DF, you should expect 3 NF's.

Hope this helps.

Definitly hungry! If they wake shortly (within an hour really) of being settled then it's hunger, not habit. It's very reasonable for an 8 week old to be hungry at 11.30 as that is 4.5 hours after her last feed. My two didn't have a DF as they wouldn't take it but at that age they always woke naturally anything between 10 and midnight for a feed and then again about 4 hours after that feed. As they got older that feed got later.

I always found it much easier to feed and settle back to sleep quickly rather than getting up and down to try and settle and then end up feeding anyway. ;)

If you're BF, every feed is a building block for your future supply, so go ahead and feed away!  7 - 11.30pm is great for an 8wo :)

Thanks ladies! I was leaning toward that as well - like I said though, her cry just seemed more "tired" than "hungry" but we'll be sure to eat tonight if she's up! :)
I don't do the DF either ... I just feel like I can never get enough rest to really give it a good go, if you know what I mean, since I go to bed these days around 830pm anyway! haha.
Thanks! :)

I never did a DF either.  Couldn't get it to work with DS, couldn't be bothered to try only to be frustrated with DD!! :P

We didn't manage well with the df either. We just fed in the middle of the night and it worked better. My big girls were ff after six weeks and started going without feeds at night at about 2.5 months and E had night feeds for many months longer. Don't forget, if there's any reflux present then the constant feeding at night helps soothe their throat. This was the case with E..
