12 weeks old crying and not eating

Hi
For the last 3 days my 12 weeks old son is crying every meal, the moment the bottle touches his lips.
he won't take the bottle until i use a paci to calm him down, when he's calm he sometimes eats about 30-40 ml, stops and it all starts again...
this happens during the day, on his DF and NF he eats well.
his weight is 6.5 kg (yes, big  ) and he usually eats about 120 ml every meal, 6 meals per day. (maybe that's not enough for him? but he won't eat more)

any advises?

Hi,

I feel for you *hugs*.  I've gone through this with my daughter over and over again and she is now 8.5 months.  Could your son have reflux?  That's the main cause of my daughter's not wanting to eat.  Does he arch backwards when you try to feed him?

Hugs as pp mentions I wonder if your LO is having some discomfort.
Have a read of this...Do you think reflux could be a possibility?

well, he is arching his back some times and about once a day vomits more then an hour after food. he is also pretty windy..

yesterday i was able to feed him in a quiet dark room
ant today, for the morning feed he was quite calm, still arched hie back a few times, but cried only a bit and ate well.

i'll take him to our doctor tomorrow and ask her about reflux

Sounds like it could be reflux, definitly worth getting checked out.

How often are you feeding him? By around 12 weeks a lot of formula fed babies seem to need to go to 3.5 or even 4 hours between feeds, so if he isn't showing hunger cues at the 3 hour mark it may be worth seeing if going longer helps. Have you tried a faster flow teat too?

we are going to the doctor tomorrow.
he is hungry after 3 hours, anyhow, i feed him only when he starts licking his lips.
i'll check with the doctor and see, the back arching thing is my main concern.

have you gone to the dr?  did they tell you what was wrong?  Hope everything is ok and your LO is doing better!

we did go to the dr. she said it might be either lactose intolerance or reflux
so, for now we'er trying lactose free formula and adding cornflour.
he still cries, so i'm giving it 2 more days and we'll go back to the Dr. on Friday.

i have a feeling that the cornflour makes him full too early, so he's eating less (and it's hot here now... very hot, and the a/c dries) so i gave him just now a bottle with only the lactose free formula, but with the smallest nipple, and he ate a good amount w/o crying at all, maybe that's the answer... we'll keep trying.

There are non-food thickeners available that would do a better job than cornflour really.

Lactose intolerance is very rare in babies, reflux is a much more likely answer, it's a good idea to go back if things aren't improving.

wow I never heard of using conflour to thicken babies milk   As Laura said there are a lot of thickeners available designed for the purpose....

i'm not using the regular cornflour from the supermarket, its a product called "Materna cornflour cereals" designed for babies 4 month old (i'm in Israel).
from what i read here, you have so many kinds of different formula brands, we have about 4... Materna is one of them.
anyway, i stopped since it's not helping.
we'll see the doctor tomorrow.
