Is it too early to give up S/P to extend the nap?
« on: June 11, 2012, 04:44:47 am »
Hi,

My boy is 9wks old now, and he's been having 30minutes naps since 7th wk. He used to have longer nap when I started EASY at his 6th wk.

He sometimes have longer nap, but most of the time, he opens his eyes around 26ish, make sound, fuss a little, and around 30~40 he started getting frustrated. So lately I come back to him around 25ish, and when he opens his eyes, I shh/pat and/or use paci and/or use dryer (for white noise)  ;D and tried to extend his nap. Sometimes it works right away, but most of times it doesn't. I said it doesn't work when he started cry more, and when it passes 20minutes since I tried.

Is 20 minutes reasonable time to give up on extending his naps? Has anyone tried longer and it worked?  Also sometimes even though he napped only 30 minutes, he seemed wide awake. Can he be really well rested even with 30 minutes nap? (I kind of disagree because I saw one minutes he is wide awake and happy, but then he started get fussy and yawn... hmm.. ???)

Hello Piansea,

I'd been having a similar problem recently, but I hope I've sorted it now! Can you post your EASY so we can see what A time your LO is getting? Thanks to the lovely Papaya, I know now that 30 min naps usually mean LO is over-tired so if we can see what the A times we can see if that's the problem!

It has taken me and my LO 45minutes to resettle with shh/pat before (even just yesterday!) so I would keep going if you can, it does work.

Best of luck!
