11 month old wants to be cuddled to sleep :(
« on: July 14, 2012, 00:00:12 am »
ok where to start
my son had a common cold when.he was about 6 months so silly me was so desperate for sleep I.brought him into bed with me.HUGE mistake. he also likes bein snuggled to sleep by only me, yet.when I put him down he wakes up and clings to me. I think this may be seperation anxiety.
months on I've tried almost every trick in the book.. but unfortunately so far every night about 4 am I bring him into bed with me.
he was in a routine 9pm - half 7/8.. but recently he won't settle until half 11 time. and as I.said its an endless struggle.to get him to sleep.
he's in my room still & I've tried the horrifying 'let them cry' routine and found it too distressing for the both of us. I'm exhausted & need advice on how.to crack him.
also I've been told I need to stick to it no.matter how tired I get.. which in theroy makes sense but he wears me out!!
I had the patience when he was a diddy thing but.he's a year.next month and the both of us.need a decent night!!

any tips??

Hello and welcome to BW :)

Just FYI, we here at BW are very much against CC/CIO, so you've come to the right place if you'd like a gentler method. Just so I know how much to explain, have you read any of Tracy's books?

Lets start with the basic questions:
What is your LO's routine - when is he waking/sleeping, how is he getting to sleep, what/when is he eating/drinking?
Where does your LO sleep - in your bed/cot beside your bed? Would you be able to move him to his own room?
Does your LO have any medical conditions - eg. reflux that may affect his sleep? If so, is it controlled & how?
Is your LO teething?
How did he used to sleep way back when, before the cold?

also I've been told I need to stick to it no.matter how tired I get.. which in theroy makes sense but he wears me out!!
I had the patience when he was a diddy thing but.he's a year.next month and the both of us.need a decent night!!
Totally understand the exhaustion and just wanting something to work! Just know that sticking to something and being consistent is your best ticket to a decent night as soon as possible.
