Ok back from Thailand and I've been doing some experimenting.  I thought by now i'd have enough info to figure out his morning A time but can't for the life of me figure out what's going on!  Here's what we've had lately... (oh btw ds2 is now 6months)...

(a note- when he wakes I'm the morning I'm carrying him back to sleep till 8am as my husband is away and I have to have him wake at around 8 so that I'm available for ds1 later on the day but he generally doesn't wake up for more than a few minutes and then he's back to sleep.  Also sometimes if he seems really tired I give him a long nap in the sling)

8.10 wake
10.40-11.20 nap then 11.20-11.35 nap, crying
1.45-4.00 nap in the sling
6.30-7
9.15 bedtime, (evening wake up)

8.00 wake
10.25-11.55 nap seemed ok after
2.25-3.25 nap, crying
5.35-6.10 nap
8.45 bedtime

7.50 wake
10.20-12.00 nap, seemed ok
2.30-3.15, crying
6-6.25
9.00 bedtime

7.45 wake
10.15-10.50, 10.50-11.30, 11.30-11.40 naps, crying
1.40-2.30 nap, ok at first then cranky
3.10-4.00 nap in sling
6.20-6.50 nap
9.30 bedtime, eve waking, restless through the night

7.55 wake
10.35-12.05 seemed ok
2.20-3.05 crying
3.45-4.15 nap
6.10-6.45 nap
9.05 bedtime, eve waking restless night

8.00 wake
Poo delayed first nap
11.10-11.55, 11.55-12.40 nap
2.45-4.10 nap
6.30-7 nap
9.30 bedtime no eve waking but NW and restless night

8.00 wake
10.35-11.20, 11.20-11.45, crying
2.10-3.50 nap in sling
6.15-6.50 nap
9.30 bedtime eve waking, restless night

8.00 wake
10.30-11.05 in sling (had to go out)
11.35-12.20 nap
2.45-3.40 nap
5.45-6.30
9.10 bedtime eve waking restless night

7.50 wake
10.30-11.15, 11.15-12.00 naps seemed ok
2.35-3.25 noise woke him
6-6.15 nap
8.25 bedtime eve waking but slept well after that

7.25 wake
10.05-11.05 nap crying
1.30-4 nap in sling
6.15-6.50 nap
9.30 bedtime eve waking but slept well after that

Where should I go from here?  Stick with 2h40 for another day or two or just go straight for 2h50?

Will post today's morning after he wakes up from his nap.

So following on from above, this mornings nap was delayed due to an impromptu feed, so  we had

7.55 wake
10.40-11.20 nap, potentially it was a noise that woke him.

So now I'm thinking push on to 2h50?

Ok I could really do with some help here, I'm starting to get desperate.  Things just aren't improving and I can't figure out why.  I only have two weeks to get this baby into a routin, then my maid leaves and if he's not taking good morning. naps by then, there'll be nothing I can do about it and he'll be stuck doing short maps while he gets dragged along in the school run.

Following on from above we had

7.40 wake
10.40-12.00 nap
2.30-3.20 nap, crying
5.30-6.15 nap
8.55 bed

7.30 wake
10.20-11.00, 11.10-11.20 naps
1.45-3.40 nap in sling
6-6.40 nap
9.00 bed

7.30 wake
10.20/10.30-11.05 nap, he had real trouble settling down for this nap so I'm not sure if he really slept at 10.20 or 10.30

Please forgive me for not reading back to the beginning... can you please explain why the late night?  At this age you are still looking for a 12 hour night and dropping the catnap.

Have you seen the samples routines for 6 months?  Scroll down here:

{{{hugs}}}  It certainly does become tricky trying to work the second one's needs around the first born's.

Before we went on holiday I tried cutting the catnap and putting him to bed early.  He just kept waking earlier and earlier.  Now we are a month further on and I want to drop the catnap but how can o do that when I haven't even got his morning A time settled?  I thought the whole idea was to stretch out only one A period at a time to avoid them getting overtired?  How would you suggest I proceed?

Bearing in mind that in the evening I have homework and ds1 to get to bed and no help doing so.  Also ds2 is still cosleeping and nursing, usually waking one hour after bedtime for a nip to get him back to sleep.  Ds1 is also sharing our bedroom at the moment and I had planned to address all these things when DH gets home next week.  I'm exhausted and feeling completely overwhelmed.  I was managing to get through it by just telling myself  one step at a time, just concentrate on the morning A until DH gets home.  I'm not sure how to make it work for the next week if I don't have the late bedtime.

{{hugs}}  At this point, I would just keep going the way you are until DH is around to help.  Sounds like you have a couple of issues to tackle, all of which are not helping the big picture.  Are you planning to continue the co-sleeping?

When DH is back, can you start a new thread with the details?  That way more eyes can be on it.  :-*

No way!  I never intended to co sleep even this long, just with moving a couple of times, long haul travel and family holiday, there seemed little point in tackling it before now!  Granted he'll still be in our room for foreseeable future, but cosleeping and night nursing are on the way out!   Sure I'll create a new thread next week.  Thank you!
