NEWBIE Needing Help
« on: July 28, 2012, 20:00:11 pm »
HI

I have an 8 week old - nearly nine week old and need help in sorting out the night time situ.
We have so far been feeding on demand meaning that I have been giveing her what she wants when she wants it.  I am really confused though!!!  She currently goes for roughly three hours between feeds, but doesnt cluster feed - she did when she was very young but doesnt now.  We tried dream feeding on its own however, we found we would dream feed her at 10.30, then she would wake up a further twice after midnight anyways - so was getting an extra bottle.
I am confused as to whether we need to change her routine or whether she will work it out herself - if we need to change it how do we do it??
At the moment she tends to go to bed between 7.30 and 8.30 following a feed, she sleeps until around 1am, then will wake twice in the night to feed.  How do we stretcht the sleep period to go beyond 12??
Is there a routine I can follow??  I am so confused and would rfeally really appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the boards ;D

I think at this age it is still very normal to still want feeding every 3hrs around the clock. I know it is exhausting, but it is really only a short time in the scheme of things. If she's going to bed at 7.30-8 and not needing another feed until 1am, she's doing really well (unless I'm misunderstanding what you've written)? You might consider doing a dream feed, although it might not mean fewer night feeds NOW, it may be easier to wean the night feeds later if a DF is established, if that makes sense?

As far as a daytime routine, she should be having nice long naps - 1.5-2hrs - and awake only 1hr15-20mins in between, and feeds when she wakes up from her naps. Have you read any of the BW books?
