Is it typical for naps to disappear around 7-8mo?
« on: August 02, 2012, 15:28:12 pm »
I'll mention that we haven't been doing EASY very long, however my DD has always had a nap in the morning for 30-45mins.... She's refusing to nap now. We both had a late morning, up at 8:30AM after a rough night of transitioning her into her crib. She was up every 2 hours but I do have to say that its a HUGE improvement compared to the hourly wakings. In my eyes, she's done very well especially with getting her back to sleep.

I've noticed a trend of 7-8month olds having issues napping suddenly after being good (or bad) nappers. Is it a trend? Because mine's doing it now too LOL. And I'm trying pretty hard to keep it together, but I'm thinking about APing and going for a car ride just so that we can get out of the house and she can nap. But I'm a little worried that if I throw this wrench in our already not-working-very-well-machine that it'll become a prop in the future, and was wondering perhaps I should just stick to my guns and keep at it.

Can you post your last 24 hrs Hun?
Ie
WU 6.30
Nap 9.30-10
Nap 12-2 ...

Sounds like you just need a routine tweak ;) anything developmental going on? Trying to crawl etc

Wake up 8:30
Nap 12 (I TRIED at, like 10:30)
Nap 4
Bed 8:15

She's mastered the crawl, and standing (uses pretty much anything with in reach to stand and if it's not within reach, she'll crawl to it LOL) and now has started to try to walk around furniture. I do know we have a routine tweak that needs to happen, but before trying EASY, she'd always nap around 10:30ish, depending on when we got up, as well as around 3 (again, it'd fluctuate 30mins). She's just seem like a huge ball of baby-energy.

Recently just started to put her in her own crib for bed, and last night she did really well and was up every 2.5 hours (compared to the .5 - hourly wakings). Could it just be the adjustments I'm making to her daily life?

She needs more than 2 hrs A before her first nap, she will be UT - hence fighting you ;) most 7-8 mth olds can do at least 3hrs A before the first nap.
Maybe try something like this
WU 8.30
A 3 hrs
Nap 11.30 -1
A 3hrs15
Nap 4.15-5.15
BT 8.15

She may need more A even really...but to start with hopefully she will take a nap after 3hrs A ;)

We've been going through similar issues with nap resistance once in a while if I get the A time wrong in the morning.  Try for up to an hour and if she's still not sleeping, stop and take her out of the crib as if nap time is over.  You then do low-key activities and watch closely for sleepy signs again.  It will usually be within an hour and then start nap time routine again.  Usually at that point if it's still no-go I give up and APOP a nap in the car out of sheer desperation because I figure any kind of rest is better than no nap at all.  Then I shorten the A time following the car nap by at least 15 mins because it's not a restorative quality nap and he's much more tired than if he'd slept well at home.
