Hi sara,

He slept til 2:25 this morning, I settled him and then 10mins later dh was in from work and woke him managed to get him settled then he was up again at 5:15 and I ended up taking a pillow and cover in and he slept til 6:45.

I will try all u suggested, my gut has said ot as all this has happened since our holiday. Ayden is now 2years 2months and used to be an independent sleeper until we got our bbb and we lay with him until sleeping but recently did wi/wo and can now sit at door and he does stay in his bed when told its b/time.

Do u think I should try earlier naps after his refusal at 6hrs yesterday?
Sometimes we can get him back to sleep if he wakes before 1.5, how
Long should we give him if he doesn't sleep the full 1.5?
Do you think his ot is causing HM to take so long to fall asleep at night?
Xx

Just chipping in with something I don't think has been mentioned Honey. WRT this ^ DS Sam is 2.5 now and I have had to move his nap forward as early as possible, cap at 1 hour and then he needs 6hrs 15 minimum to bed time in order not to create an enormous scene. I know that early nap is linked with early waking but I think OT can be the biggest culprit often because as soon as they've had anything like 9 hours sleep they are sleeping so lightly it's game over.

I totally agree with Sara about the keeping him in his room until it's wake up time but it is so so hard. Since Sam turned 2 there is absolutely no chance of resettlling EVER and he wakes up DH who works nights and gets to bed around 3 am so when there are others to consider (other LO's too) it can be game over. I hope you have some success with it.

So if the other suggestions don't work, you could try what works for us at the moment (although we do go off track often  ::)) bearing in mind it's the long A time to BT that is the clincher. Then if he can sleep a decent night and become more rested he may stop the EW. I would suggest capping the nap if you want his nights to lengthen though.

Hope this helps in some way  ;)

Vicki.x.

ETA: some LO's are always happier with short am and long pm, Sam definitely is one of those.

Hi Vicki thanks. When ayden got up before he used to rub his eyes all morning and I would still put him down at the 6 hr mark and he would sleep 1.5 but recently he isnt showing any signs of tiredness in the morning. At nite he seems more tired at night. Im so confused with him.

We used to do short morning and long afternoon but that was when he was younger and it helped us alot by switching.

Yes this rings true...^...Sam never looks like he needs/is ready for a nap these days, unless he's majorly off track and exhausted. With Toddlers of their age there is so much going on and the mind is so active the tired signs are 'gone with the wind' but there is every chance is you put him down he will nap, this is the case with Sam anyway.

Is Ayden refusing his nap (sorry if this has already been discussed)

Yup, us too LOL. I had push Sam's nap out when he was younger, but as you know things change all the time, and I think it's so important not to forget that, because what worked a long time ago can now work again. Hard to believe I know but true. The 1-0 is a juggling act with A times and nap length, and the 2nd A time more often than not just runs away with them overnight  :o

Vicki, it was just yesterday he refused it im not sure if he was just too tired and needed a little help or just beibg a monkey! But by the time 1 came he was just gettibg upset.

He has certainly shown tired signs this morning, maybe after a longer nights sleep?

I wilk certainly give things ago with switching his A Times over and see what happens.

Shiv, early nights do work but still find that nw's do still happen but onky one
And they are normally slightly longer.

I know! Lol he slept for an hr but managed to get him back to sleep for the rest of the half hr, 5 hrs would have been 7:15 but he is in bed just now (its coming up for 7) to see if cutting his A time down a bit helps.

Im not sure if he will be a sleep soon he is still chatting away

So to recap he had 1.5 hour nap and then 4 hours 75 A time to BT  ???

Honey, If this had been Sam we would have had WW3. He would have needed at least 6.5 hours after a 1.5 hour nap, so my guess is, yes, he was UT when you put him down.

That doesn't mean that he isn't OT too, but what I and many others have found is that at this age the rules change. They can be severely OT from previous days but if the A time is too short for the day you're in then it makes NO difference. This makes the 1-0 very tricky  >:(. When Sam has accumulated OT the BT antics are crazy even when I put him down after the right A time, he gets hyper as soon as we head up the stairs but as long as I do things right (ie: stay calm  ::)) he will sleep. If he is UT from too short an A time he simply WON'T sleep until he reaches or goes beyond the A time he needs.

I hope that makes sense and helps in some way.

x.

Yip that sounds all familiar!  I tried to get him down abd asleep for 4.75 but he took to tge 5 hr mark to go to sleep.
Do you think he needs more A time to bed? Say 5.5?
