Overstimulation for 5 month old
« on: August 09, 2012, 07:26:16 am »
Hi,

I'm already posting on the reflux site as my LO has slight silent reflux which has affected her naps and nighttimes.

My LO is a grumpy/touchy with a slight spirited in her and now I'm begining to get the reflux under control just thought I'd tackle her naps.

My LO always fights sleep, like mad screaming, yelling, kicking.  She never really seems to give me sleep ques apart from at the point I think she's OT.  I'm wondering if part my problem is overstimulation.  I get up in the morning with her anytime between 5 -7 am depending on how her night has gone.  I am sticking to the 2hrs -2hrs 25mins a time, sometimes in the morning though it's slightly earlier as she does start to get restless.

I put her under the gym for a while, I'm thinking too long now.  She is starting to explore, rolling around, shuffling backwards but she does tend to be under there for about 45 mins - 1 hr.  can't put her inher swing chair or bouncer as she starts to get upset within about 5 mins.  I'll put her in her bumbo chair but again she gets restless after about 10 mins.  I do try reading to her but she doesnt really like cuddling up and just turns into a complete fidget.

Any other ideas for low stimulation a times and wind down activities I can do to try and help her with her naps.

I wasn't sure whether to post here or in activity times but thought since its a nap issue it would be better here.

Thanks for your help  ???

Hi Jo, did you want to post your last couple of days?  30/35 mins sounds a bit OT to me........does the 2h - 2h25m include everything from eyes open to eyes shut, including winddown and her fighting you?

E - 2am
S - 3.30pm would fall asleep soundly
Woke at 4.30am tried to resettle then at 5am put her in with us so I could get some keep
6am wake up.

Lastcouple of days have gone all over the place, normally I try to have 2 hrs a time including settling down but sometimes the screaming and kicking takes me past sometimes 10 mins sometimes 1hr.

This morning took me an hour and a half to get her to sleep for 30mins, problem is I know she's tired because she is whinging, this was after n hr of a time.  Bit more success next nap, she did 30 mins and I actually manged to hold her through her jolts so she had another 1/2 hr.  I know she is OT but how do I make her catch up with her self When she won't sleep.  I've tried adjusting her a times forwards backwards but we have this fight every time.  Normally only don't when it's bedtime or DF.  But lately she's taking a while to fall sleep after bt feed.  Bt never use to be an issue 2,wake ups after DF and then 7am wake up but now she is all over the place.

On meds for reflux, I don't think that's the issue. Dr won't give her anything other than gaviscon anyway also on c&g anti reflux milk.
Ive tried early bt but she just wakes earlier, thought if I could get naps established then maybe nighttime will fall back into place. I know i AP but have done because of reflux.  Maybe I should start again with shh/pt and Pu/pd?

 :)

Oh ((((hugs)))) you must be absolutely exhausted :(

I haven't BTDT with reflux but honestly, I can't think of anything that would cause your LO to wake so frequently night and day other than discomfort.  I wouldn't feel comfortable advising you to do shh pat or PUPD if she could be in pain.

So sorry you're having such a tough time.  Can you see a different doctor?  I'd really push for a trial of something better than Gaviscon.....but will leave that to the reflux board mummies who can hopefully share their experience with you.

Really really good luck xxx
