Impatient 6 mo
« on: August 19, 2012, 00:44:29 am »
My dd gets really angry when she does not get instant milk or after a few sucks. Then she pops on/off pulling my nipple. If she wld hang in there I know it wld come. This is mainly an issue in btwn main feeds (ie a cluster feed at night ).

It is so frustrating and then she wants to bounce btwn boobs.

We are on a 4 hr easy. She STTN, no dream feed.

I worry it's my supply but I am pretty sure  there is milk in there.

Not sure what to ask- or what I can do!

Nursibg in am or right after nap is ok - it is end of day if there is a cluster feed or at bedtime.

Could it be possible that she's just not interested in the cluster feed any more?  Have you ever tried to do without it and see what happens?  It's true that supply is sometimes lower at the end of the day, but it generally still tends to be enough -- if you left out the cluster feed, you should have a higher supply for that last feed too (at least in the short term until your body adjusts) and then she would possible be more interested.

Sorry on my phone now hard to give all the details.

I don't always do it. She is a very distracted eater these days so there are times when she doesn't nurse great (eg ds in room) so then she may seem hungry later but its been an hour or longer since the first feed & she gets upset at the breast. Since she STTN, and on a 4 hr easy she is not getting a lot of sessions kwim. She is not skinny at all but have no idea how much she weighs.

?? I have not started solids. She is 6 mo tomorrow & i see pedi on tuesday - and I'll start this week I hope or next (long story but haven't decided if I'm doing blw & this week is soooo busy for me).

Re: cluster feed again. It all depends on her naps. She dropped CT but still has 2 hr A time making the day weird...

My DS2 does that when OT, it's like he just cannot relax enough to feed.
Could you try to hand express a little to get a let down and then pop her on so she doesn't need to wait for the let down? Have you tried breast compressions?

I would be surprised if it was an actual supply problem since she is sttn on no DF or solids so she sounds like she is taking her fill.

thx ali, i think that could be it.

i do try to do breast compression and squirt some out. sometimes - i can't get it out though? i used to have an almost painful let down. now i can barely feel anything. i'm sure this is normal. i just can't remember much since i did this with DS.

she has rolls and not a skinny baby at all so maybe i just need to chill about it.

^^^^^This was exactly my experience and from what I've read, totally normal.  As they get older and your body regulates, you don't get those crazy let downs anymore.

I hardly ever feel the let down lately unless I have missed a feed and am getting full then I do notice it. I agree it is normal.

It very well might, she's probably ready at this point and then she won't be nearly as hungry around BT.  There's also a 6 month growth spurt in there that could be throwing things off a bit.
