COMPLETE nap refusal - what to do today??
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:08:29 am »
Never had this happen before! I put F down for her nap at 12.30 as usual and have just got her up again at 2pm, after several attempts to settle were in vain. She did have the best night sleep she's had in a while last night, 11 hours straight, so perhaps I should have put her down a bit later, but she was yawning and seeming tired mid-morning so I thought she'd be right at the usual time. Routine atm is usually ~ WU 6.30/6.45, nap 12.30 - 2.30, bed 7.45.

WWYD now? She's currently playing happily after finally being released from the cot ::) Try again for a nap in an hour - and how short? We're out this evening so can't really do EBT...

Hugs, I just PMed you with EBT, but see ow you can do that :P I would try again as you say in an hour, or as soon as you see the secondwindstart to drop...could you be a bit cheeky and give her a bottle or BF in her room in the dark to help her drift off ;) works for us sometimes when Z is unsettled (typically when on hol) OR could OU try the car? We had a couple of complete refusals over the last month, it's a shock isn't it!?
The first one (there was illness, he had brought up milk twice that morning) I pulled out all the stops and use the major AP magic wand at 4.40pm.  I kind of hoped for 20 mins but he wouldn't wake so it went to 35 mins and did regular BT (which then was 7pm, it's now later) and he did a full night sleep.
The second one I didn't try for as long at the 12.30 PD which meant I cold try the AP magic earlier, 2.05 - 3.25.
The third one there was a micro nap in the car but instead of easy transfer into bed he woke fully and totally refused a nap the entire day.  Did normal BT and had a very disturbed night.
By the fourth one I just chucked him in the car and went for a drive to at least get a CN, again I gave up the PD but earlier so the CN came at 1.20, 40min (I can park up once he's asleep) and I drove to get him off again for another 40 min when he woke. But that night had total BT refusal too.

Don't know if that info helps any.  I'd go for a short CN later on, like our first refusal.  it did at least keep a decent night.
Good luck!
x

It is a bit! We've had some nap resistance recently, but at worst nap was 30 mins later than intended, and pushing the nap back by 15 mins seemed to have solved that. It's 3 now and no signs of tiredness yet so I think I'll leave it another 15 mins and then try to AP a short nap. If worst comes to the worst, DH has volunteered to stay home tonight.

Her little mind is just SO active atm - she's talking 19 to the dozen. The whole time she was in her cot there was this constant chatter: City out of the cot now! City enough sleep! City use potty (put her on, didn't need it); Mama no go out, mama stay with City (when I left the room again); City play with blocks! City pull hair-tie out of City's hair! Then there was silence for about three minutes and I was convinced she actually was asleep, FINALLY, so I peeked in....and she had indeed pulled her hair-tie out of her hair and was very intently twisting it into different shapes ::)

Wow, she's really talking a LOT!
We still only have individual words from DS but there are new ones every day which is exciting.
Maybe music would help to drown out her thoughts/words.  I've found since DS started with the language leaps he likes to listen to some music as he goes to sleep, I think it gives him something to focus on.  Although F would prob sign along knowing all the lyrics haha!

Lol! She did just request that we *read* my baby sign language book as her nap story. She still has her white noise, but maybe she's too used to that.

Asleep at 3.25 - didn't have to AP it, but did stay in the room until she was asleep. Not sure how long to give her - 7.30 is probably the earliest we can have her down if we do take her out.

lol it was a typo - I intended "sing along"!...but sign too hey!

I'd go for a full cycle and not worry about EBT.  DS's is around 1hr 20 now.  Maybe you know her sleep cycle length from transition noises?

Think her cycle is still only around 1hr5-10...but she only slept 50 mins anyway. She's been ok though, we're heading out now but the plan is for DH to take her home as early as possible and put her in pyjamas first, so if she falls asleep in the car she can basically go straight to bed. So it should be a slightly early night. Fingers crossed ;)

Not too bad, thanks - she was in bed a bit early but not asleep til the usual 7.45, DH said it was an easy bt though,. One quite long NW around 3, maybe 30 mins just chatting in the cot. She had a drink and used the potty, then I left her to it and she settled again. Then up for the day just before 6.40. So better than expected ;D

I can't believe ow much she talks, Z is still mostly single words, a few together but not a huge amount so may e it's developmental! :-*
