So my LO has been sleeping longer at night, she typically isn't waking up till 6:30 or later, so I just add on time depending on when she wakes up. Yesterday she woke at 645 so I put her down at 1145, instead of 11. She isn't napping any longer and actually playing a lot longer in her crib before she falls asleep. Still getting 55 to 70 minute naps! Her bedtime has been early every night.

Do you count A time from when they wake up or when you get them out of the crib? We typically don't get her out till 7 to start her day, she is very content in her crib. Would this affect A time?

Today she was up a bit early, 615, her brother has a bad cold and woke her up. Will try 1130 for nap time?!?

****Update, she went to sleep rather quickly for her nap, 10 mins, and was up at 22 mins, sitting up but right back to sleep. Then up for good at 57 mins, up there singing and carrying on! So she did 5 hrs 15 mins A time and had that one wake up and then up for good at 57 mins, and happy as can be.

Though she won't stay that way, she will be ready early for bed and probably give me some trouble making it to bedtime.

I thought for sure she would sleep better, we stayed home all morning so she got lots of activity, when we ususally are in the car or store at some point in the mornings! *Sigh*

What to try next? Anything?

Thanks!!

As far as A time goes I normally split it so for example, if you hear her at 6am but do not get her up until 7am then I would go for 6.30am.....

Hmm, tricky. She is doing longer nights so that is great and 1 nap is obviously the better way to go. I forget - have you tried pushing A time out to more like 5.5?

She actually slept for 1 hr 30 mins with the small wake up! Which was much better, so that was a move in the right direction!

She was up at 1:05 and I gave her a bath at 630 and milk en she was asleep right away at 7 pm. Which was good, however she woke up today at 530!! She was singing her ABCs as loud as she could, we left her go, and after an hour she fell back to sleep for about a half of an hour and up at 720am. So strange, never thought she would be up early!!

Today's nap will be late bc we have to go pick up her brother at preschool! Hmmmmm

I know this thread was pretty much done, but we still are having no luck at all. I have tried 5.5 hours A time, all the way to 6.5. I keep getting 1 hour naps, and the occasional longer one. When I pushed it out to 6 plus hours A time, she wakes up at 55 mins or 52, etc....

Do you think I need to just start over and try 5 hours and keep with it for a few days?

I am at such a loss as to what to do. I thought by 16 months she would deal with OT better and be able to just take a nice long nap!

Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

well my lo is the same, we rarely get good naps and in her case she does get OT very easily.

If i were you I would set a time for her nap and just stick with it, hopefully she will lengthen the nap as she gets used to it. Have her nights been ok? if so she may just be a short napper.

I would not push further than 5.5 for now and here we have to do 5 max or we get an OT nap. Are you doing a wind down? Are you keeping things fairly low key for 30 mins before the nap?

Our nights are typically 11 hours, occasionally 10.5 or 11.5, but we average 11 hour nights.

She gets up at 6:30 like clockwork everyday now. I decided today I would try 5 hour A time, well put down at 5 hours and see when she falls asleep. As for a wind down I really don't do any, we will be playing with my 3 year old as well and then I change her diaper and take her upstairs, turn on white noise and hold for maybe a minute or two and put her down. ?????

So today up at 6:30, down at 11:30 and we shall see how it goes. Lunch throws me off though, do you snack before your nap and snack again after nap, since I would HOPE that she sleeps right through lunch! :)

Thanks so much!

yes I tend to do a snack before the nap like a yoghurt and banana and then sandwiches or something like that when she gets up. Good luck!

How did the nap go today? Hope you don't mind, I've been following along as we are in the same stage as you and your LO. ;)

I don't mind at all...I just got on to update the nap....ugh! :(

It was 1 hr 10 mins, with slight wake ups at 26 mins and 52 mins. I don't know what the slight wake ups, rolling around, and back to sleep mean.

Is it safe to assume that a 52-55 min is OT? Any thoughts on the 1hr 10 min nap?

By the way taking her up at 5 hrs A time, and it took 17 mins for her to fall asleep, so 5 hr 17 min A time total.

Should I stick with putting her down at 5 hrs?

Becky, you said you are dealing with some of the same, how long are your LOs naps?

Thanks!

Hi. I've also been following along as we are having the same trouble with naps and earlier mornings. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one. We are getting 1 hour naps regardless of her A time. Unfortunately, unlike your LO, she usually wakes up miserable  :-\ she used to go down for naps without a squeak and fall asleep almost instantly. Now we are getting 5-10 minutes of angry crying before she goes (and as we are so all over the place with A times I never know if it's because she is OT or UT)
Sorry to hijack your thread. Just hoping that you find the magic formula so I can copy it!   ;)

You're definitely not alone! ;)

Same story here... naps less than an hour now, which is just hectic! Newmom101, what time are you doing bedtime? We've pulled it back to 6.30pm, but doesn't seem to be helping much as my LO is still waking at 6am, making it hard to make it to nap.

Fingers crossed for everyone! xx

Our bedtimes depend on wake up from naps. Today she was up at 1 so we gave her a bath a little after 6 and had her milk by 630 and I was out of her room by 645 but only bc she was a bit upset...asleep by 710, it almost seems like even when I try to put her to bed early she still isn't asleep until after 7pm, which today was 6 hr A time. I assume she will still get up at 630 tomorrow, however bc I just wrote that, she will be up earlier, lol!

How does one know if you have a low sleep needs child??!! (I know I am a high sleep need mama!)

Sorry there are others in my same situation! I feel your pain! My almost 4 year old is dropping his nap, ugh! I had hoped of overlapping naps, but no luck with either child right now! :)
