What time do I W2S for EW??
« on: September 13, 2012, 07:50:13 am »
DS is waking like clockwork at 5.20am and WILL NOT resettle.
He goes to sleep at 7.50pm, no matter how early we bring bedtime.
My guess is he's OT as his naps are nearly always 40 mins and  ever more than 60 mins.
I want to try W2S for both naps and EW. I understand to try w2s every 30 mins for naps but when for the EW?

Thanks so much..... Any other advice would also be welcome.

Btw, his day looks like this:
5.20 wu. Stay in room. He plays. Will not go back to sleep.
6.00 bf
7.00 breakfast
9.30 nap (40 mins)
12.30 lunch
2.30 nap (40 mins) well lately he has been refusing to sleep until as late as 4 pm!!
4.30. Bf
5.30 dinner
6.30 bath
7.00 bt though doesn't sleep until 8 pm. ( prob due to too late pm nap)
8.00 sleep ttn until 5.20.

If you are going to do W2S I would try around 4am....

Just looking at your routine I think he is probably OT by the time the first nap comes round. Could you try an earlier 1st nap, say about 9am?
At this age I would actually cap that nap at about 30 mins and then aim for a pm nap at about 12.30/1pm....ideally you want 2 hours but you can adjust BT depending on the length of the nap.

Is he teething at all atm?

Thanks for your reply!
Not teething right now.
I forgot to mention that he ALWAYS wakes up crying. After each nap and in the morning. I'm not sure whether he's really still tired (he probably is) or whether he has formed the habit of crying for us to go to him. He sleeps in his own room and my rule is to go to him after going to the bathroom, so i don't rush in straight away.

In the mornings, we try to put him down earlier but its really hard atm. Grandma was with us for over a month and since she left he has become impossible to put down for naps :-(

Today went like this... Already better perhaps?!? Hopefully?!?

5.20 wu
6.00 bf
Tried to put back to sleep with no luck.
10.00 slept in car. 40 mins approx
11.30 lunch
1.30 nap (1.5 hours!!!) in the car again
4.30 dinner
5.30 bath
6.00 bf before bed
6.30 asleep!!!! He was exhausted... And a bit OT.

That's the earliest ever he's gone to sleep. I think we managed it by pushing his whole day forward. We'll see what happens tonight.

Amazing, he slept 11.5 hours!! Waking at 6am. We're doing the same thing tonight to see if we can continue the improvement. :o)
