Please help me fix EWs with my 19 mo!
« on: September 18, 2012, 15:06:31 pm »
We've had it good for so long - I guess it was our time for it to go a bit wonky :(

EASY has been :

Wu 6-7 somewhere in between
Nap 12:30-1:30 somewhere in between (sleeps for 1.5-2 hours)
In bed and quiet by 7-7:30

Last Saturday, she woke at 4am and we couldn't get her back to sleep - oh did the usual of being outside her door and using reassuring sentence (we rarely have to do this). This technique did not work, when it usually does, so we got her up - it was about 5am by this time.

She then began showing teething symptoms, so we put it down to that. She had a long nap Saturday day (2.5 hours) and went to bed at normal time. Sunday she woke up early again, about 5 and couldn't settle herself, so we got her up again. She napped for 15 mins in the car mid-morning and had a pm nap of just over an hour. Sunday night she woke at midnight, I went into her, thinking she might need mess for teething, picked her up and she settled on my shoulder. I managed to put her back in her cot and she slept till 5ish - again she could not be settled, so up early again. She did not wake in the night on Monday but did wake early again at 5am.

Her teething symptoms seem to have gone, but she does have a bit of a cough and oh has had one too, so she might be a bit under the weather, but only a little - I really don't know what has affected her wu times so much. I know her naps have been a bit inconsistent, but this doesn't usually have this effect.

How do we get things back on track?!

so is she now waking at 5am most days??

If she is teething and you suspect OT has built up I would do a 2 nap day so maybe 20 mins in the am and a longer pm. I would also try to never let her day go over 13 hours on 1 nap or 2 as it can build OT pretty quickly.

xx

Yep, basically 5am is the new wu time  :'(

Yesterday, she was with my PIL and only slept 20 mins on the way there and again 20 mins on the way back, so I began bedtime routine half an hour earlier and she went out like a light at half 6. She called out at 1am and thankfully settled herself. She still woke up at 5:10  :(

So I'll give her a little am nap and give her a later, longer pm nap? And seeing as I got her out of bed at 5:30, should I do the same as last night and have her in bed by half 6?

Oh, and I don't think I need to give her mess any more as the teething seems to have subsided (for now!)

yes 6.30pm BT. I think it is worth sticking with the 2 naps for a few days to see if she will catch up x

Have you tried a gro clock/lights on a timer?

I introduced one with L around 18 months and was amazed how well it has worked.  Would def recommend giving that a go to help move (and keep!) WU later.

Thanks, Becky - fingers crossed this will work!

Cathn, I was also thinking about the gro clock - good to know it's worked for someone else with a LO around the same age - thanks!

I gave her a short nap and the longer pm nap as planned, but BT was a bit rushed and later than 6:30pm as we had friends over for tea. Still, she woke at 5:45am so a bit of progress! Will try the two naps again today and see how that goes.

Just wanted to update and say the last two mornings, dd has woken up at 7am! Well, in fact, we got her out of bed at 7:10 today :)

Thanks for your help!
