Quick question re: naps and A time
« on: September 27, 2012, 14:25:27 pm »
The answer to this is probably pretty obvious but I'm not seeing it.  My LOs naps have fallen off the wagon...I think I need to work on her A time again but here is my question.  For her morning nap today, I heard her cry after 45mins at 9am but she went quiet again before I got to her crib.  She was on and off like this until 10am then she didn't stop crying so I got her up. When I start calculating her A time, do I go from 10am even though she was probably on and off awake since 9am?  She is in the 4mo vortex so her naps have gone from being consistently 2hrs to being only 40 -45m  I can't tell anymore if she is OT or UT or just not wanting to nap:(

I would say that if she is on and off sleeping then you calculate from the time she is finally awake.
Are you keeping a log? If you are you could see after what length of A you are getting which naps. 1.5h and more would be good restorative naps for LO, 30-35min naps are usually OT and 45min naps are UT. I wouldn't tweak anything till you see some patters, like if you see that 1.5h always gives you an UT nap (just an example) then you'd know that you need to increase this A time.

I thought it was the other way around! So of course I've been adjusting my A time incorrectly! Argh!

Just so I don't make the same mistake again, is a 1hr nap OT or UT?

UT for most babies. Everything between 45min and 1:20h is UT.
