Awake again
« on: September 30, 2012, 05:50:34 am »
Hi all

I was after a bit of help
After a long patch of EW's which resulted in dropping to one nap we finally got back on track to 6:39/45 wake ups. This week my LO is slowly getting earlier. I think I need to tweak his nap but not sure whether to push out or cap. He goes to nursery 4 day and naps from 12:30-2:00 most days. Here he naps from 12-2:00.

What do you think

my guess would be OT or teeth or maybe OT caused by teeth (it is the age for canines)....if he is up at 6am and naps 12.30-2pm and then BT 7.30pm that is a really long day.
You could try a DF meds around 3am to see if it does anything. I know a lot of mums do this but my DD is a light sleeper so I don't dare!

I tend to do a nap at 12-2 at weekends and Fridays and have to wake him up!! Think it could a GS he had 22 Ozzie of milk + meals today- might be why??? But he is also dribbling, chewing hands and not liking teeth cleaning

When I do push his nap later do I cap it or push bedtime out- thinking later than 7:30 is too late maybe I should pull back to 7:15 in prep?

we always capped the nap but that worked best for DS. 17 months is pretty young to be nap capping unless he is low sleep needs so I guess I would push the nap put but he is already doing 6.5 hours in the am - am I reading that right?

Really strange- he was awake before 6 this morning- nap times are pretty fixed as he is at nursery and yesterday he didn't even sleep on the way home do he was up at 6:15. Napped at 12:40-2:00 and bed by 7:30. Surely he can't suddenly be OT when he has been fine for months??

to me he sounds OT as he is doing a mega long A first thing and then still 5.5 hours in the pm but you know him best....there is an 18 month sleep regression so you could be hitting it early....I will get some more eyes for you hun xx

I can't understand why all of a sudden it has hit??? I wondered whether it is linked to him being a chatty bunny and eating us out of house and home!

I would bet OT as well.  Or, it could be the 18 month regression... my LO suddenly dropped to total sleep of about 11 hrs in 24 and wasn't grumpy for it... it lasted a couple of weeks and then she was fine again.

Hello Hun,

I tend to agree it's OT. If teething is at play he will be even more tired. Can you shorten that am A time to 6 as you do at the weekend or is it unavoidably longer in the week  ??? If Sam has a short night and has accumulated OT, I tend to shorten the morning A time (always have if possible) then you can allow a longer CU nap and still have plenty A time to BT. For LO's Max' age this can work well. I would medicate before his nap to be sure he doesn't wake through pain.

x.

Naps are brill- fingers crossed. He did better this morning and slept until 6:30 ish. Unfortunately I can't do anything about his first A mid week- toddler nap time is after lunch, for his weekend maps I have to wake him after 2 hrs- should I let him sleep on? Should I then push BT?
