14 Months old and I THINK ready for 2-1 nap?? Can you Confirm?
« on: October 09, 2012, 15:54:43 pm »
Hi moms and dads,

My 14 month old has a good schedule that worked well but is all changing now and she's wanting to wake around 6:30/7am (and unrested), which does not work well for us/her  nor is  it her "nomal" thing so I'm just trying to find out what's going on and if it's time for a 2-1 nap transition.

Her schedule was:

wake 8-8:30ish
nap from 11:30-1 or 1:130.
2nd nap from 5-6pm
bedtime 9pm

NOW she's waking at 6:30-7am and is still VERY tired, and her first nap is 10am because she is super fussy because she's so tired since up too early!! She's sleeping now as it's 10:51am but I'm not too sure how to carry out the rest of the day AND what to do from now on to get her to wake up  later and/or IF she's ready to go to 1 nap. I can't push her to one nap if she's getting up so early and going down for her 1st nap at 10am! Any suggestions? Advice please??

Thank you.

Hi Honey,

First of all, just checking there's no other stuff going on like teething or walking development  ??? it's always good to make sure before changing a routine that works  ;)

Otherwise, it does sound like some tweaking maybe in order, but that doesn't mean she is necessarily ready for 1 nap, there are other things to try such as a short cat nap in the am and a longer nap pm. This often works well, and that way you're less likely to get refusal of the 2nd nap. Having said all that it is also possible that days sleep started to rob night, hence the EW. It may just be that her day sleep needs capping to say, 2 hours and her night will settle again. I think short am nap of 30 mins followd by a 1.5 hour pm nap may be the way to go  :)

What do you think  ???

I guess her day would look something like this from an EW stand point.

6.30 WU

9.30 to 10.00 nap

12.00 to 1.30 nap

BT 7.30

I know that BT is too early for your ideal but the hopefully once her nights lengthen the day would naturally shift later.

(HUGS)

THank you! No, nothing else going on... she's been walking since a while now and not fussy or anything due to teething. As a matter of fact, when she wakes at 6:30am, she's quite happy and ready for the day! :)  I will try your suggestion today and she how that works.  She does wake around 4:30-5am for a bottle still.. any advice how to stop that? :-/

Just go cold turkey and stop giving her it. Unfortunately that's the only thing that will work. You can APOP her back to sleep with a back rub or whatever works for her and just ride it out. She will probably get the idea in 3 nights or so. It's not easy I know, but it will work  ;)
