Dream feed backfiring??
« on: October 15, 2012, 16:34:06 pm »
So, I'm new to BW and started to implement the EASY schedule (the best I can since my son's in daycare) about 2 weeks ago.  I'm happy to report that his nap schedule has finally ironed itself out and he is pretty consistently taking 3 naps/day at the appropriate times.

However, I also started the DF which was new to me.  He's had about 1 1/2 weeks of a consistent DF at 10 pm (put down is 6:45/7:00).  The last 2 nights he has woken up at 9:30 pm, almost it seems in anticipation of the DF.

During the DF prior to the last 2 nights, I had no problem feeding him 5-6 oz of formula and putting him back down in the crib without him waking up in the slightest.  The last 2 nights when he's woken up at 9:30, I've still fed him 5-6 oz and he falls right back asleep.  I'm just a little aggravated b/c prior to starting this process, I NEVER fed him after he was in bed until he would wake up in the middle of the night.

At 3 1/2 months, he would go down at 8 pm and sleep until 3/4 a.m.  Now, he is going to sleep at 7 pm and waking up at 9:30 pm, 1:30 am, 4:30 am, and 7:00 am.  I'm not sure the DF had the desired effect.  It doesn't seem to be helping his night wakings at all and, instead, I've just added an additional feed in the night that I really don't want.

Feeling really frustrated!

It sounds like you've given the df a good shot and if it's not working for you, by all means, drop it.  It worked a treat for my dd1 and my ds, but with my dd2 it only disrupted her sleep more.  When I finally dropped it, I had a few nights of resettling her at the times when she was usually waking, but once she realized that there was no food coming, she stopped waking.  I'd try that.  Glad your naps are getting better.  :)
