How long will we be stuck on good nap, late BT? (28mo)
« on: October 16, 2012, 11:40:49 am »
Just interested really. The only way DD2 (28mo) will STTN is with a decent nap and a decent PM A time.

So our days are something like:

A 7
S 1-2.30 (I always wake her, she'd sleep 2-3 hours if allowed)
S 8.30/9pm

Can't realistically get her down much earlier than 1 due to school run etc. She is a BEAR to wake, she hates it, I leave it as long as poss but any more than 1.5 hours and BT is ridiculous.

I am really, really grateful that she will (generally) STTN if we get a good nap, but also miss my evenings, and the fact that if we choose to go out in the afternoon and forego a proper nap, the night will be a disaster. Once or twice she's ended up with no nap at all and the night is always hideous, she is nowhere near nap dropping.

Anyone have similar? TIA  :-*

We are similar & still need a good long nap at 26mo (though of course this may change over the next couple of months!):

Up:   7am
Nap: 1/1.30-3/3.30 (typical nap length = 2hrs)
Bed: 8-8.30

DS is also a bear if I wake him from his nap & for the whole afternoon too, so I try to avoid it at all costs!  I miss my evenings too & I know DS isn't up anywhere near as late as your DD so I feel for you, I really do.  Will she go up at say 8pm & lay in bed & chatter til she's ready to sleep?  This is what we do with DS & he's happy to go up at 7.50pm, even if he doesn't fall asleep til 8.30.

One other thing - my friend IRL is having similar to you with her DS, so she is doing no nap day, with a super early bedtime, followed by a couple of nap days, then a no nap day & so on.  She finds if he does that, he can still take a decent nap & fall asleep well at bedtime, but any more than 2-3 days of naps & he is back to faffing around til 9-9.30pm.  I know you say she's awful on a no nap day but how long since you last tried?  And have you tried a really early bedtime i.e. 10.5-11hrs after wakeup? If she's not done one for a while, she might just surprise you & handle it better than you expect?x
