Wake up Issues
« on: October 16, 2012, 18:14:14 pm »
Having a bit of a wake up issue going on with DD.  Hoping one of you has some ideas/thoughts/advice.  So since DD was about 28 mos she has had a nightlight on a timer and would call us when it went on and we'd go in her room.  About 6 mos ago we decided she is old enough to just get up (not sure why we didn't think so before but oh well) and come in our room when the light goes on.

Well with the start of school and it being so dark in the mornings, the light seemed to be waking her up so I moved the timer back so it wouldn't do that and it was fine but then I started thinking she is 5 yrs old and maybe she is ready for a clock.  She doesn't sleep with a night light and doesn't really like light in her room so we bought a clock that is super dim.  Here's the problem...she now wakes up in the morning and sits in her bed and stares at the clock waiting for it to say 7.  We told her she could get up when she sees a 7 as the first digit.  She said she's afraid she will miss the 7 if she doesn't watch the clock.  I think before she had no idea if it was the middle of the night or morning because it was so dark in her room.  We have tried telling her she won't miss the 7 and if she does it's okay.  We also told her we'd wake her up if it got too late so she won't miss school.  She definitely can be an anxious kid.

What would you do?  Take the clock out and put the timer w/light back in or just have nothing in there and tell her we'd get her up.  Before she was waking around 7/7:15am (i think) but now I'm thinking it's closer to 6:30am.  She tells us she has to wait a LONG time before the clock says 7.  Was hoping the clock would let her sleep till she wanted to without waking her.
Plus DST is coming up and that always flips me out.  Sorry that was long winded.

What do you think you would all be happier with?

I would probably just put the timer back in if it was working tbh but it is an interesting post as I was thinking about giving DS a clock next year and giving the gro-clock to his sister and I think he would do the same thing - watching it I mean!
