Thanks for the thoughts!  CM, do you think his A time after the one nap yesterday was too long or too short?  I was thinking the NWs were OT?  And yes, we had to go in and settle for all of them.

You're right, the EW makes the day so difficult.  I'd love short am/long pm as my 3 yo still naps from 1-3.  Right now I don't have ANY crossover.  Ugh.  I have tried the short am nap but never seem to get the A time before the next nap right.

So with a 4:40 A time this morning he did a 1:05 nap.  He is soooo inconsistent right now.  What would you try for a routine:

Wake: 5:30
A: 3? (might be a battle) 8:30
Nap: 30? 8:30-9
A: 3?
Nap: 12-????

Thanks so much ladies.  I am soo exhausted!
Melinda

Thanks so much ladies.  I am soo exhausted!

You're so welcome and I feel your pain  :'( it's so hard sometimes.

CM, do you think his A time after the one nap yesterday was too long or too short?

Correct me if I'm wrong CM but I read this as a recommended longest A time on a short am/long pm routine not as a nod to yesterday's routine...IYKWIM

Okay so WRT that short am/long pm...

If you try for this like you said:

WU 5.30
Nap 1 8.30 to 9.00

Then a 30 min nap will usually get you about a 2.5 hour A time (if I remember rightly) so the next nap would be around 11.30/12.00 until 1.30 hopefully. Then a decent A time of 5 hours to a 6.30 BT, keeping her day at 13 hours max which is really important.

Ok I can try.  I knew what CM meant, just wondering of she agreed that the A time was too long and NWs were OT?  I will see of I can get him down early tomorrow!

I do feel he's ready for 1 nap, but I think the EWs and the OT are too much at the moment.  Even today at 4:40 A he didn't seem ready.

Thanks again!
Melinda

Sorry Hun.......... I do think so, because the NW that start early on are almost always OT NW.

One tricky thing I deal with 3 days a week is picking up his brother at noon.  So somehow I have to make that second nap start at 12:10...???  Maybe nap 1 from 9-9:30? Next A 2:45, nap at 12:10?

Yes, I think OT too. But then UT for the 2 nap routine :P

I think I would try a bit longer between the naps if you get a shorter pm nap.  DS2 would do 2.5 hours after a 30 min nap but DS1 would have done 3.5. Hopefully, it will fall into place.

I agree that he is probably just about ready but the EW is making him OT.

It might happen like this anyway....Just thinking about stretching that A time to BT by the 2nd nap being earlier. It's so hard to strike the right balance. No doubt he will lead the way  ;)  ::) ::)

Ohhh ladies, I don't know how much more I can take!  Yesterday was a mess:

W: 5:30
A:  4:30
S: 10-11:05
A:  4
S: 3-3:35, back to sleep, awake 4:20
A: ??
S:  tried BT at 7, he moaned and murmered till 8
Wake: 5 am!  I tried to get him back till 6:30 to no avail.

I fell asleep during 2nd nap and DH said he woke screaming so he for him back to sleep.  He had a very long day and a very short night.  I don't know if I should go ahead with our plan or just follow him and TRY to catch him up.  I just can't imagine waking him from am nap after that night.

Oh dear.  I feel like I have a newborn.

Oh Dear, poor little mite. Did he fight a shorter first A time Hun  ??? Did you try it  ??? If no, then I would. If he fought it then I would have a few days taking his lead until he feels better  :'(

I did.  Got him down at 9:15 - woke him at 10.  Gave him 45.  Eek.  I'm a softy!  What would you suggest for 2nd nap?  1?

Thank you!
Melinda

Do you think that you can catch him up?  Sometimes I find if they need a routine change, it is the only way for them to catch up. I think I would try to see if two good naps will give him a better night and then start when he is more settled.

I would have still given my two a short am nap and then just allowed for an earlier, 2+ hour PM nap and earlier bedtime.  Hope he sleeps well today!

I would put him down 1 - 3ish. I think the first A needs to be shorter to make the short am/long pm work. :)

I know.  I forgot to mention that I have to take DS1 to school at 9am.  So I raced back and got him down as fast as I could :/. So hard.
