Any ideas why long NW?
« on: October 24, 2012, 09:47:34 am »
I'm wondering if my EASY needs tweeking?  Seems like as soon as you get settled into a routine it needs tweeking! Hehe

DS has been having 2hr long cot parties for the last 2 nights... Something he's never done before. :( great fun for me considering his best nights consist of one 4hr stretch... Argh

This is my typical day

Wake and bf - 7am
8 - solids
8:30 - bf (top up)
9:15 - S
11:15 - bf
12 - solids
12:30 - bf (top up)
1:30 - S
3:30 - bf
4:30 - solids
5:00 - bf
5:30 - 30 min catnap in pram
6 - bf, bath etc
7:30 - S

Long NWs were at 4-6 and 2-4....  Last night he selfsoothed at 4am 1hr after I fed him.  He wakes up happy, then 1/2hr later gets upset.  I feed him once 3hrs has passed since last feed and then leave him to send himself back to sleep (with my fingers crossed). Any ideas?

Is he doing those full 2hr naps or is that your nap 'window' when you'd like the naps to be? If he is sleeping those 2hr naps fine, I can't see any tweaks that need making :-\

I'm guessing the NW's are more related to this mental leap: http://www.thewonderweeks.com/index.php/about-the-wonder-weeks/your-babys-10-leaps/mental-leap-4

I feed him once 3hrs has passed since last feed
Are you trying to resettle, then feeding when he hits the 3hr mark? If so, you'd be better off feeding straight away when he wakes or making sure he goes to sleep again (even if only for 5 mins) before feeding. Just don't want him to learn that if he fusses long enough he'll get a feed...

He normally manages 2hr, but at worst 1.5hrs... His days used to be so rubbish and now hes like a little programmed robot! Hehe.., hopefully we'll get to the same place with our nights.

I think your right with the mental leap as I've noticed him dropping things and watching them fall.

Thanks for the advice. I hope you're right and its a wonder week!! ha

A week is optimistic - it was always 2-3 for us :P Worth doing some things in A time to help him pick up the concept though, can make it pass more quickly :)
