feeding schedule for 7.5mo
« on: October 31, 2012, 03:11:33 am »
My LO is now 7.5 mo and his A time has increased by bounds (finally after trying everything else to get him to nap). Now his morning A time is 4 h, which puts his bottle feeding time that was around 4-5 hours all wonky. When should I give him a bottle? Before the nap at 4 hours or after the nap, which could be 6 hours if he sleeps for 2 hours... Then that messes up the rest of day- today he would only take 3 bottles, but he ate a lot of food... What do you recommend at this young age with such a long A time?

thank you!

The common pattern at this age is still to have a bottle waking from naps. So  it would be wake up, after morning nap, after afternoon nap and then bedtime. Solids come an hour or so after milk feeds so they are part of the A time.

If you have a look at this link you can see what others have done! chronological EASY samples, 7-9 months

Thank you... I have looked at those schedules but no one is at 4 hours A time yet on those... It leaves him almost 6 hours between this first two bottles if I feed after waking... Then we have to scrunch up all the rest of the bottles at the end of the day and yesterday he refused a bottle. Do you think 6 hours is too long?

I don't think it is too long - he will have had solids after his first feed and you can offer water in a sippy too. Can you give us your EASY so I can see if anything else would work?

Eat - what times, how much
Activity - how long for
Sleep - what times, how long for

Thank you! I also posted on teh nap bard as he is refusing his afternoon nap...
But here was yesterday's EASY

7:10am- awake
7:20 bottle- 6 ounces
9:00 breakfast- very little
11:00- nap
12:45 wake and bottle- 10.5 ounces
2:00pm- lunch- ate a lot of chicken and avocado
4:10pm- tried to nap- refused, cried
4:45pm- out of bed, motrin given, refused bottle
5:15pm- tried nap again, cried immediately- out of bed in 15 minutes
6:15pm- ate a lot of dinner
6:45pm- bath
7pm- bottle- 10.5 ounces
7:30pm- asleep in bed

Woke at 5:15am this morning, then tossed and turned and slept some until 6:30am when wide awake and took 10.5 ounces immediately.

Just not sure... maybe give him his first bottle not right when he wakes up, but like 30 minutes after so that we can shorten the time to the next bottle?
he also chronically wakes early at 5:15, awake until 5:45, then sleep until 6:30-7am every morning...

Thank you for nay help...

he also chronically wakes early at 5:15, awake until 5:45, then sleep until 6:30-7am every morning...

This is a routine issue - he is OT when he goes to bed at night as he is refusing the PM nap ;) Just had a peek at your routine... if he does a 4 hr A time in the morning and then naps almost 2 hrs, he is gonna need a good 4 hrs of A time before he will nap again...  I would be tempted to wake him at 1.5 hrs in the AM to see if that makes him tired enough for a good PM nap.  It could also stop that early morning restlessness.

As for the milk feeds - his total ounces are fine... at this age my DD was a bit odd too... she still had 4 bottles, but they were smaller than they had been just before we started solids...

This was us at this age:

6am - 6 ozs
730/8am - solids
930-11am nap #1
12noon - 6 ozs and solids (she would take solids right after her bottle no problem, funny enough, wouldn't at breakfast though), but you could do his bottle right after nap and then solids at 12/1230pm
230-4pm nap #2
5pm - 6 ozs and dinner solids (same deal as lunch), but you could do his bottle right at 4pm then solids at 5/530pm.
745pm - 8.5 ozs and BT.

We had no DF and she STTN.  My daughter has low sleep needs though and only had a total of 13 hrs sleep at this age ;)

You will find that most babies can go longer than 4 hrs between milk feeds as the solids will see them through :)

Hope this helps.

K :)
