Cap the nap? Not sure at all...
« on: November 07, 2012, 10:05:22 am »
Hi all

My DD is 16 months and i'm not sure where i need to tweak here so here goes....

WU: 6/6:30
Nap: 12-2pm
BT: 7:30 (she plays in her cot for about 45 minutes, then i need to give her a cuddle and she's off to sleep..usually with a few night wakings). I used to think it was teeth but she pretty much has them all except canines...so it maybe still is?

Last week I had an op and was in hospital and during that time DD sttn every night (when i wasn't there to enjoy it!!), which hasn't happened for a while. I quizzed him on her routine and he said her naps were shorter than normal because he was had to pick other DD from preschool, or he woke her up early from her nap by accident because he was making too much noise etc (our house is tiny!)

So fast forward to now and she's back on her usual routine and back to fighting bedtime and waking up at night....my question is...should i cut her nap again and see if we can reclaim some sttn magic?? DD can handle long awake times fairly well and doesn't usually get OT...and i'm starting to wonder if i need to get her up earlier from her nap or push bedtime later so she is tired enough...?

So maybe our day would be:

6/6:30 wu
12-1:30 nap
7:30 bt

is 1.5hrs max day sleep enough for her do you think??

Thanks in advance
LH

Why don't you try it and see! It would be on the lower end of sleep times but someone has to be! My DD was always in need of longer A times, and I think she was only doing 1.5 hours at this age, we certainly didn't ever need longer than 2 hours.

It may be that after a couple of days of 1.5 hours she needs a day or two of longer naps to catch up a bit but if you are aware of that and watching her signs you can do that.

Ok...not sure where to go from here....capping the nap over two days resulted in a very whingy girl who struggled to fall asleep both nights and had multiple wakings both nights....i'm thinking i might need to give her that two hour nap so she is rested and push bedtime a bit later.....which means a 10.5 hr night....is that a bad thing? I have no idea now!!?
