Bedtime?
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:00:45 am »
Charlie is 6 weeks old and was doing the typical cluster feeding at 6 with a little nap then feed again at 8 and then bed. He is ff and was then waking twice before morning for a feed. He seems to now have a feed around half six and is sleepy, which has co incided with him outgrowing his basket so I have been putting him to bed around half seven in his cot in his own room, swaddled! He hasn't woken for another feed around 8 and was then waking twice! However this week he is now only waking once around 2-4.30. Las night it was 12 and then he stirred at 5ish but didn't really cry so left him and he must have gone back off until 7. Is it ok that he has dropped the cluster feed so early, and also I thought it bed not to try a df as he is sleeping so well I didn't want to mess it up. He also only takes between 3-4oz at night usually he takes 7oz in the daytime, so I don't think he is far off sleeping through however I am worried this is to early and he should need food? Ds1 didn't sleep through until 12 weeks old! Sorry if I have posted this is the wrong place wasn't sure where was best?

Thanks in advance x

I am going to move this to Bottle feeding so you can get more support there :)

I'm also finding that because he takes so little in the night, he is taking 7oz first thing and then 2-2.5 hours later he is hungry again which messes up the day x

Hi Hun :)

Lucky momma!  I would think to give the DF a shot.. it might be enough to get him through until morning...

As for being hungry 2-2.5 hrs later - this could be the 6 week growth spurt ;)

Almost forgot - 7 ozs!?!??!  That's a massive amount at one feed for his age!

Ha I know although he is on comfort milk which is digested easier. He slept from 8 - 6 so think I will leave things as it is x

Enjoy it!!

And I agree 7oz is huge!  There were only a handful of times my DS ever took that kind of quantity, always growth spurts and he'd often need a shorter time between E through those too.  The shorter time between E in the morning might be a bit of a pain in terms of your routine but it sounds GREAT to me, your LO is clearly moving calorie intake to day feeds so I'd go with it - as you plan to.

He is a big boy though 8.10 born and now 12.4 so 91st line I think he is in the middle of a growth spurt so will see how he does after x

Bless him!  What a big boy!

I would leave everything as it is as well... if it's working, no need to mess with it!
