Makes total sense. The reason i think he's done with one side is that he gets fussy, doesnt want to take the breast, looks away, but then eats like a champ when I switch sides.  That's why I've been giving him both breasts.

Sometimes I take T off, wind then re offer the same side ;) the winding is often the break he needs when the flow is slowed to then finish if he's still hungry.
That said if its a GS like we have had that makes it trickier. ;)

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does GS mean?? I'll try re-offering the same breast after burping him, maybe that will do the trick.

Any advice on how to extend his night sleeping? Or how to get him to sleep on his own ? He's not a huge fan of sh/pat and currently only sleeps on us.  I'd like to break this cycle, of course...

This is pretty normal and fine at this age - DS slept in his cot at night and on me or in the pram for almost every nap til 3.5 months when he sleep trained in 2-3 days. I honestly think at this age getting into routine and working out how to read LO's cues is more important than getting him to sleep on his own during the day. His night sleeping will extend when he's able to last longer without a feed - provided you're feeding when he wakes rather than waking him every 3hr to feed, he will almost certainly just push those wakings later little by little. Getting more fats into him during the day by block feeding should help with that as that's more calories ;)

Thanks to all for your very helpful guidance.  I will continue to work on getting my son and I into a routine and hope that he gradually extends his nighttime sleep on his own.  Thanks a million!!!!
