WDYT mucus in poop milk free already ...
« on: November 20, 2012, 00:19:15 am »
I have been milk protein free for 5 days, or maybe even 6 :-\ now and noticed a huge improvement in Ts skin :D he is also less uncomfortable and gassy.
Early am he did a few whopper poops, 3.. All looked good, he did typical straining to pass but no pain in lead up etc.
he was a bit unsettled after his am nap, then just before lunchtime he did a mucusy poop :(
Could this be normal? Left overs from my milk proteins before ED ??? Or sign of another intolerance?
Or too much fore milk.... Pla lol three/any of the above ;)

Tia :-*

Ok, could it have been the probiotics I put in a bottle of EBM yesterday am? - I just realised they are not dairy free!

Hmmm M gets horrible diarrhea from some probiotics Sara. Even those that are dairy free. I think probiotics can go either way - they can help your LO, or make them worse, kwim?

I'd maybe stop it if it's not dairy free, wait a bit to see if it gets better, and then try to introduce one that is dairy-free.

Ok just checked them and they are dairy free... He's only had 1 lot in the bottle ever. Maybe it wasn't that?
Does mucus in poop always = something bad? - ie if not frequent..

Hmmm, I'd say let his gut heal before introducing probiotics, as it's likely too irritable still to be able to tolerate them just yet!

So that's calculating it from you being totally dairy free for 2 weeks and him for at least a further week, preferably 2.

I know you want to do everything you can to help him  :-*

Sara I think mucus in poop can be caused by a cold, or teething, but other than that it usually means that digestion is difficult or that the intestine is irritated.

I'd also be tempted to wait a bit before reintroducing the probiotic.

i *think* it would be odd for him to start with mucus poos after you eliminatd milk for a week. Not 100% though.

Olly couldn't tolerate probiotics either  ::)

If whey is a kind of milk protein then yes I would avoid it. Just to be sure, there is NOTHING wores then having to second guess all the time.  :o

Still yellow and seedy otherwise, Sara? If greenish or stringy - possibly foremilk overload.

This is true too, but foremilk overload can't be discounted just yet. Logan's got darker green and more like long wet grass in texture when he was really suffering with the foremilk overload.

How's the block feeding going? Another thing you can do to release more fat earlier into the feed is to massage your breast near the chest wall before a feed to get the fat to let go of the walls of the milk ducts.

Hugs xx

Poops nothing like grass, more like clear thick slime :-\ ???
No more poop since then but skin Going bad again so either I ate something with milk by accident? Or something else. He's been really unsettled since that poop though.
Block feeding going well. 4hrs on 1 side only, sometimes a bit longer. Weight gain better too ie not ridiculous 1/2 kg a week!

I still have a s$it load of milk. I can pump a full infant bottle 125mls in a few mins.

We had greenish clear thick slime, then it became more and more grassy...

Maybe the probiotics... maybe some dairy...

Of course Sara it could be allergies for T... just saying it could be both ways. M also does get red-rimmed eyes very easily though.

Bet you feel better after that sleep! That's an awesome night :)

Seems like you'll have to be really careful re: hidden dairy for a while. At least you know :-*

Are you keeping up your intake of fats, calcium and calories in general? Drinking plenty of water?

Maybe your supply is just settling down now...

I'm trying to eat...but so stressed sometimes I forget...
Taking multi vit and drinking.
I def think my supply has settled :) does that mean I go back to feeding 1 side per feed, or stay in 4 hr blocks. (For the times T feeds more frequently)

I'd stay in 4hr blocks as a maintenance thing... except in a GS if he needs more.

FWIW, I have to be on a dairy free diet also and my doctor informed me it can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks for the milk protein to completely leave your system and in turn take yor LO the same amount of time, so getting mucusy poop sometimes is likely to happen. It was not until 4 weeks after my diet started that the trace blood was not detected in his poop. She also said it was ok to ave wheat bread and cracker that contain milk and it is more important to avoid actual milk, soft cheeses, ice cream, yogurt, etc. they say it is more about the amount of dairy being consumed and as he gets older you can start to reintroduce it slowly as their tummys get stronger...just wanted to let you know what I have learned!
