18th months sleep regression- pls help (good naps but still NW)
« on: November 22, 2012, 02:45:11 am »
Hi

I know there is a post out there on 18th months sleep regression, but I cant seem to find my answer on the thread, is too lenghthy. So if some one could help out there that would be greatly appreciated.

Dd is a touchy baby, been STTN since 3 months old with a few wakes up alonng the way but generally fine till now at 18th months.
Her EASY is like this

6.30am Wake and bottle ard 7am
Lunch 11.30am
Nap: 12-2.30 (btw 2 to 2.5 hrs)
Dinner: 6.30pm
Bedtime 7.30pm (  I find at 7 pm she just keep refusing and pushing back a bit she self settle to sleep)

Problem is she will wake up once from 11.30-4am. And it could take 1-3 hours settling her! I tried WI/WO, pat. I dunno wat else to do and have no idea why she is waking up. She seems more calm when i carry her but i always calm her then put her back in the cot and pat her and slow down the pat until she sleeps.
Thats why is taking so long to settle her!

Can somebody help me? I dunt know what is causing her NW

long NWings are usually discomfort or UT...
Is she teething at all? How is she when she wakes? Chatty or crying?

If it is not pain it 'could' be her nap needs capping to 2 hours - how long has she been on 1 nap for?

She is crying when wake, and sometimes even standing up in her cot! When I enter her room, she reach out for me. Think she might be scared

sounds like it could def be the regression.
have you noticed any difference when she naps for 2 hours rather than 2.5?

No difference with naps. She had 1.5 before, still has nw. She had 3 hrs still nw. They appears unrelated.

Hi there,
We had NW as our main issue with the regression.
I was a few things, teething - we medicated at NW if we suspected pain. SA so cuddle, reassurance and a bit of ap (bottle worked here) if it went on and on we did Wi/wo
We had a few developmental NT and nightmares too, for which we did the same as SA.

You really just have to ride it out. It was never every night for us which was good, and the bottle was never a prop so we could use it to help us...here's some links re the regression but really I would say pick a method to dealwith it, or a plan and try to be consistent.

I found posting on the support thread helpful!

We're smack bang in it or maybe crawling our way out now - HUGS! Its tough. Didn't notice it start as we've had so many developmental things going on before this...we did have a good week or two then things went slowly down hill again :(

The SA is pretty bad here at the moment, lots of cuddles required, wakes and shouts "Mummy, cuddle". We also have night terrors from OT though not for the last week or so. Keeping nap and BT set and riding it out is basically how we're approaching it ;)

Hi all, thanks for your reply. I Really hope is just a phase. Is been 2 weeks alr and she wakes once a night. But each night, I spend 2 hrs resettling her. I work as well, honestly don't no how am going to cope. I stay with her and gently pat her until she calms. It really just seem like very bad SA. Strangely, she goes to bed during bedtime on her own and naps r fine too.

Is it the same time every night? How is she waking?
Do you think teething could be part of it too? Hugs x
