Hi Hun...

Notice that you bumped ;)  Please remember that we are all moms too and are all around the world so won't always get to you within a couple of hours ;)

If he isn't finishing the bottles every time, then you are fine ;)  If he starts to drain them, add an ounce to ensure that he stops when full.

There is a 3 month growth spurt so the less than 3 hrs thing could well be that.  Very common to be unsettled at night at this young age too...

Cluster feeding is generally stopped around 8 weeks so a bit late to start that.. but you could well try a dream feed.

Here is a quick link for DF info:
Cluster & Dreamfeeding FAQ's - Starting, how to do it, stopping & problems

Have a peek at the FAQ's - lots of info about growth spurts etc...

How much does he take in 24 hrs and what does he currently weigh?

he has had problems with wind and pooping recently since i stopped BF'ing

Cluster feeding is really for babies up to about 8 weeks- after that Tracy recommends combining the clusters into a 3 hour EASY so that the last feed of the day is about 12 hours after the first then you do a dream feed and 1 or 2 night feeds depending on the baby. If you are already cluster feeding and it's going well then carry on or you can split a feed around bath time. I wouldn't start cluster feeding at this age, you are better to start trying a dreamfeed but not all babies take to it straight away.

It's very hard to overfeed a baby if you follow their cues - they are very good at self regulating. By 10/11 weeks most babies are taking around 5oz, some a bit more, some a bit less. If it is taking more than 20 mins to feed then try the next teat up as bottle feeds should be finished in about that time.

Pichi - If you baby is draining bottles then you need to add another oz so he can stop feeding because he is full and not just because the bottle is empty.

As Kara said, we are all mums here with busy lives and in totally different time zones. The bottle feeding board isn't that busy so your posts won't get lost so you don't need to bump them up - someone will get back to you and we will help as much as we can but you do need to be a bit patient sometimes. :D

Sorry - read it as 11 weeks, not days ;)

This would mean that you start to do cluster feeds now.. the DF is started when you combine the clusters (you don't do cluster and DF at the same time).

So for example, you could have a day like this:

Feeds at 7, 10, 1, 3, 5, 7pm... or  7, 10, 1, 3, 6, 8pm... you just have to figure out what will work best for your baby since they are all different.

As for these babies being unsettled. waking frequently at night - normal.  Babies don't really start to sleep well at night until about 3 months of age - some moms are lucky enough to have good sleepers (meaning only 2 NFs) by about 8/10 weeks.

Check the link I posted for more info on clustering and DF :)

Kara - what are we like, I read it as 11 weeks too! Really sorry pat26!

What time is the last feed at night? If you mean the bedtime feed then I would try a dreamfeed between 10pm and 11pm. You don't wake for a dreamfeed - just pick up out of the cot, put the bottle in and he should start sucking then lay him gently back down after.

Personally I didn't ever wake my two at a particular time at night, we did the dreamfeed (which actually didn't work for either in the end but they were both refluxers) and just let them wake when they were ready. It did mean they were hungry and ready for a feed and settled back to sleep quickly too.

I'm not a fan of waking a baby at any time after bed for a feed...

What time does he go to bed for the night?  Is he still up for the 9pm feed?

Did you read the link I posted: Cluster & Dreamfeeding FAQ's - Starting, how to do it, stopping & problems

This provides all the info about both cluster and dream feeding...

You can certainly do both of them now... just remember that you do not wake baby for the dreamfeed.  Clustering is done in the earlier part of the evening every 2 hrs to "tank baby up" to sleep longer at night... and most will generally do it naturally.  Most moms do find that clustering and DFing follow one another - meaning you do the clustering until around 8 weeks of age, then change over to doing a DF between 10-11pm (assuming bedtime is 7/730pm).

Also, the DF can take a week to work (meaning for baby to readily accept it while asleep).  And further, some babies do not take to it and will wake up just as much if not more with it.  Neither Laura nor I did the DF with our kids.
