I actually never tried a DF (I didn't find BW until DD was almost 6 months old ;) ).

That said, once DD was about 8 weeks old, we started her bedtime routine to have her sleeping by 8pm after her last feed at 750pm.

From 8 - 12 weeks, she woke twice, once around midnight and once around 330/4am for a feed, up for the day around 630/7am.

She naturally moved her bedtime closer to 730pm around this time so her last feed was around 720pm

From 12-19 weeks, she woke once somewhere between 1-4am (generally 2-3am), and would go right back to sleep until 6/630am.

At 19 weeks, she stopped waking at night very suddenly (went from every night, to once or twice for a week, then not at all). When she did this, she also shifted to a 10 hr night that was 7pm-5am with no NWing.  I do wonder if she would have slept through to 6/7am with a DF, but alas, I will never know ;)

Either way, she survived and napped like a champ at the time ;)

so wtih the cluster feeding u r doing it every 2 hours in the evening so my lo would still b looking for a bottle before midnight

Not necessarily - many will sleep a good stretch after clustering... if baby does wake and it has been at least 3 hrs, go ahead and feed and put back to bed.

should i treat this a as a df.

Not sure I follow you here... you do not wake baby for a DF - they are asleep for it.  The idea is that you do a DF between 10-11pm and then baby will not wake until much later - generally past 2/3am for a NF.

I may be being a little dim but for cluster feeding, how do you start it? If my Ds isn't awake every 2h to cluster feed then does that mean waking to sleep? As I don't really like the whole wake baby to feed? :|

Some babies naturally wake to cluster feed in the evenings, some don't need it so if he is asleep and not waking looking for feeds I would leave things be to be honest. It may be in a week or so that he is awake a bit more in the evenings and is looking for feeds. Don't forget your babies are so tiny things can change is a few days. Neither of my kids wanted a cluster, even if they woke if it wasn't 3 hours since the previous feed they weren't interested.

I would relax a bit and go with the flow - if they wake and are hungry then feed them. It's actually quite hard to get into a routine with such tiny babies, keep the EAS structure as much as you can and don't worry too much about timings for now. There is plenty of time to get into a proper EASY as they get bigger - many people don't find BW until their babies are older and still manage to get it sorted.

Enjoy your babies while they are tiny and get to know their cues!

I am diff going to relax more as he is only 2 weeks so still very small he is in a small rountie at the moe which seems to suit him at the moe. Because he is so small  dont think he be ready to go without a big bottle beofre midnight and with df my 1st used to only take an oz which diff dont think would fell him up may try the cluster feeding 1st and c how that goes.

Agree with Laura - I didn't do cluster or DF with my DD and she did fall into a feeding pattern by about 3 months naturally ;)

Well, you never know but I wouldn't be holding my breath for that! ;D There are truly not that many babies sleeping through the night at such a young age - most babies still need a nightfeed until they are established on solids and that is totally normal! Sleeping through is as much developmental as calorie driven, they will do it when they are ready!

thats fine. i was just wondering how it worked. I go by my wee mans  eating signs :) and not trying to enforce a routine of EASY - just really gathering info for future months :) I found BW slightly later on with my DD too so early BW techniques are all new to me :)

I have a baby who was a phenomenal sleeper early on and she was 4 months before she slept through (and she is a rare exception!).  Granted, she only slept 10 hrs...
