Another yucky night. Fed at 10:30.Was feeling weak at 2 when she woke and fed her. Woke at 4. She did the sleep1-5 minutes and then fuss/cry/yell thing until about 5. Not sure is I was right but didn't fele rioght and held her. She sort of slept on me til 6, then I fed her and she slept off and on until 7:40.
Did first nap at 10:46, sqwuaked at 38 mark, then back to sleep another 30. Lovely. Going for 2.5 next A. Feel like we are fantastically stuck. Sweet girl she is pretty cheerful even though we are in a horrid sleep patch...

Any thoughts on the short sleeps and then crying?

Should I draw 1st A way back even more after wretched nights?

ANy thoughts on survival?

Very big yawn....

Is she teething at the moment?  We get that unsettledness and funny naps when DD is uncomfortable for some reason, though built up OT can do the same.  Can you post a day or two in EAS format for us to look at?  It's just a bit easier than reading through all the posts to work out what's happening ;) :)

I will try!! OK, before things went haywire due to crazy high A's I believe we were getting:
A3hr45
S1hr15 ( secretly OT??)
A3hr20
S1hr
A3hr
BT

NIghts have always been loopy. Best we have ever done was 4 hrs to NF, THen another 3.5-4 hrs, then NF, then sometimes a bit choppy towards AM.
Maybe 11 hour night.

THen until the past couple days we were doing
A3hr10
SChoppy hour with 30 minute issues
A 3hr
S choppy hour with 30 minute issues
A 2,.5
S 20 minute carrier nap
A 2 hr to bed

AND the last 2 days after nights from he!!
Well, this is yesterday:
A: 2.5 hour, fell asleep in pack while fixing bfast, just laid her down
S 1hr15 solid
A 3hr3
S  Choppy hour with 30 minute help.
A 2hr25
S 20 minute CN in carrier
A 2hr to bed was the plan, took her 30 minute to go to sleep so it was a 2.5 hours to bed.

If she's not got any obvious reason to be uncomfortable it sounds like some built-up OT has set in :(  Have you tried medicating before naps to see if it makes any difference?  Is she unwell at all?

I think I would suggest that you do a super duper early bedtime instead of a late CN at this point to help her get back on track - at this age, adding in a third nap generally just makes the day too long for not much gain in terms of sleep - often actually you end up with less sleep overall.  For example, on the couple of days you did before you ended up with a 13h day, but if you had instead skipped the late catnap and done bedtime 2.5-3h after waking from the second nap, she'd have had an 11h day and a chance at a better night's sleep.

What do you think?

I agree! :)  I did some PUPD (PD really) with DS at about 8.5mo, as we had been on vacation and gotten into some AP and then he started pulling up to stand. :P  Some days we only got 2x25-35min naps and while it was so tempting to do another one, on the days that I got one in the car going to DD's afternoon swim lesson, the night was never any better.  EBT worked much better and a longer night is always better for eating away at OT than good naps.

We have had 1.5 hours sleep today. Basically in 3 tiny icky naps. She is quite ( shockingly) amiable during the day. Her nap ended at 3:06 , should I do 5:30 ((((((!!!!!!!)))) BT? Gulp! But really, how much worse could we do!

I really don't think she is uncomfortable, no swollen gums, no bright red cheeks or runny nose etc..

lOK, big question, do I AP like crazy to catch her up ( let her sleep on me at first "need you" call etc..)  or hold the hard  line, hang on and pray that someone will get me a nap tomorrow. Just worried about how deep and ugly this hole could get. Thanks Mamas, I would be losing my mind right now without BW and Mamas like you taking time to help me muddle through this...

Here goes, what about the AP versus holding the hard line???.

Think it will be closer to 6 before she is in bed because I just gave her her dinner and am about to start her bath.  But we will try to be efficient while still relaxed.

This will make for a 10hr 20 minute day.

7 AM Katherine? Wow.... I cannot imagine how good I would feel, if I got 5 hours of sleep in a row, I would feel so good I don't think my family could stand me!!

Ok, running her bath.. here goes... Thanks so much!

I think you might find if she gets some better sleep through an EBT, you might not need to AP. If the need arises,
I'd try to go for a middle ground. Hold a bit longer til drowsy if needed, shh/pat farther than you normally would... those types of things.

FX for you, hon.  :-*

We might be getting back on track here. Whew, not too bad of a night.
Laid her down at 5:46, out at 5:56,
6:26 woke, my sister went in , probably a bit early I was with DS as he had just smashed his finger and needed only Mama! I went in, laid her down and talked a minute. Back out at 6:37.
9:22, woke and resettled back out at 9:30
9:45 Fed
12:45 woke, resettled 1:04 asleep
1;20 woke, resettled, 1:35 asleep
2:00 fed
5:00 woke, resettled 5:30 asleep
6:18 up

That LOOKS like a rough night but not nearly as bad as before.  And no crazy long NW's. 1st  A was 3hr8 and got us a solid 1hr20 nap. SHe woke happy.WIth another night like this we woulod do 3hr20 I think.

Didn't have to do any AP besides basically what you had mentioned Katie. Held her a little longer and kept my hand a little longer. Today we are going to the Library (45 minute drive) Hoping to find a way to be fair to her sleep...FX

EBT worked much better and a longer night is always better for eating away at OT than good naps.
This is so good to know... definitely helping,.
So would up with a big whopping 4 hour A before BT last night after the Library trip. And of course we had one of our best nights!! SHe was asleep at 6:25, resettled her for 10 minutes from 9:27-9:37. Then fed her at 10:41. SHe woke at 2:20 and I was all the way down the stairs and went into the bathroom, when I came out she was quiet so I laid down on the couch, sure she would kick off again in a minute. She slept another 2.5 hours!!! Luckily I went back upstairs. Maybe I will move the monitor closer to me and keep listening carefully. I always worry DS will wake up and be a grump but in 4 months he hasn't. But still. She woke at 5 also and put herself back to sleep. Then up for the day at 6.
So far she has had a 1h15 nap after a 3hr25 A. Just woke up After another 3hr25A, got 1hr5 nap. WhenI laid her down at 3hr she went nuts, absolutely hysterical. Finally  settled down though. Maybe with better nights we need slightly longer A's? Thinking 3hr15 to bed.... hoping for another decent night! There is hope!

she woke up 9 times last night!!! :'(  Never too hard to settle, longest stretch of sleep was 3 hours, never took more than 20 minutes to settle but wow, so tired. Had one nap her3 ( 30 minute burble, then another 25 minutes of sleep, lovely) Then 30 minute car nap as we were coming back from town. Thinking 5:30 BT. FX crossed hard for a better night.
