Hey. I've had a short nap problem for a long time but we recently cracked getting the little one to settle himself to sleep about three weeks ago. Great. But in the last few days suddenly he will not settle at all. I'm so confused and wonder if we're going through a growth spurt.
Here's the thing. Just over a week ago he started taking one full 7oz bottle less in a day. He just completely dropped from 6 bottles to 5 for no reason and wasn't making it up with extra oz in the bottle. Then two days ago he suddenly wouldn't go to sleep on the night. He usually goes to bed between 730 and 8 but he didn't settle until 10pm, in that time he had another full bottle. He slept OK that night but again the next night he wanted another full bottle before he went to sleep. In the end he fell asleep feeding. He woke up at 1 and 630 when usually he only wakes once and gets up between 730 and 8.
Tonight he had an 8oz bottle at 4 and 630 (usually only 7oz), fell asleep feeding at 645, woke up at 730 and screamed until I gave him another bottle. He fell asleep again but is waking up every few minutes crying, although I think he's still asleep while he's crying...
So am I facing a feeding issue/growth spurt or a sleep issue? I've read at 4 months sleep changes and can cause some problems. But why is he only happy when he's had more milk? Is he cluster feeding?? He doesn't seem to want more during the day. I'm also really concerned because during the 6 week griwth spurt he suffered bad acid reflu because he was eating so much so frequentky. We finally settled his feeding and the reflux cleared up. But now I'm worried his bedtime eating is starting a vicious circle of over eating then comfort feeding.
I'd just like to add we don't have an easy routine. He has short napped for as long as I can remember and as soon as I think I know what he's going to do he changes it again. Bedtime/wakeup can be 8/8 one week and 7/7 the next. But it's unusual for him to wake earlier than 2am for a bottle or 7am for the morning.
Eek, clearly we have a lot of problems at once here, I have no idea if we have a sleep problem, feeding, developmental, all if the above!!
