Formulak through nose change in teat sze
« on: December 20, 2012, 17:35:53 pm »
DD is 21 weeks.  I just changed her teat to fast flow ( there is no medium).  She downs 8 oz within 5 to 7 min with a stop for a burp.  Today Formula came through her nose. She s already om allergy formula and reflux meds.  This has never happened and she has seemed unsettled all day o far.  Do you think I should go back to original nipples ( I poked a whole to make it more like a medium flow) or do think it is unrelated.

if it was a one time thing, I wouldn't worry...  but given that she has reflux, I would be inclined to go back to the slower speed nipple...

Which bottles are you using now?  Could be that you need to find one with a medium flow... which country are you in?

I am in Canada I use Avantair I believe it is called.  Thanks I used a toothpick and made hole a little larger.

I am in Canada too :)  Do you mean Playtex Ventaire?  If so, those are notorious for causing excessive gas ;)  Certainly not a fantastic bottle for a baby with reflux playing a role... there are a few options that would be a better choice - Dr Browns are awesome but some mommas find them a pain with all of the parts... Avent are also good and offer 5 different nipple options (4 flows plus a variable flow option)

As for poking the nipple with a toothpick - not a great idea as the silicone will be compromised and can come apart further posing a choking hazard.

Which formula is she on?

Okay :)

I would try a different bottle to see if that helps with the gas issues ;)

Then switch back ;)

Why did you change teat size in the first place?  Was she taking a long time to feed?

Yes she was playing at the nipple at four hour mark.  Very slow at eating.  I found new NUK brand bottles that I had bought for my son.  I will give it a try tomo to see if she will switch to new brand

Hi, I am having the same problem with the same formula. We are using Dr Brown bottles with the level 1 teat. DD is 15 weeks old and every time (I have tried several times) I change to level 2 because she takes forever to eat 4oz, she eats a lot quicker but we have serious issues with her reflux. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence (I have just posted a thread, can't put link as I'm on my phone) but you are having same problems. How old is your lo? Has she always been on same teat with that formula? Or have you changed before? Sorry for all the questions I just wonder if my DD will have to stay on level 1 forever (hope not as she hardly eats at one sitting)
