My lil guy had a bad cough/cold over the last week. He wasn't eating much do to the coughing, so I was feeding him more often. He continued to sleep relatively well. Near the end of the week he experienced bad gas pains which caused him to go into fits of crying. I figured he wasn't getting enough hindmilk, so I began feeding him solely on one breast for the whole feed. That solved the gas issues and actually seemed to help his mucous too.
Now the cold has passed and he seems to have entered the "Snacker" habit. He is generally sleepy during feeds, so I have to continuously keep him awake, a feed can range from 30 minutes to an hour. Then he gets burped and a diaper change. Then we sit, and he winds down, getting sleepy. This is when he begins to fight his sleep and starts wailing, which sounds like a "I'm starving" wail (to me anyways). When this started I made the mistake of thinking he wasn't getting enough milk and just let him go onto the breast during this time. Now he has developed this into a habit and wants the breast in order to soothe himself to sleep. He won't take a pacifier during these fits. Without the breast he may go to sleep for 15/20 minutes before he wakes and begins wailing. This has gone on for the last 3 days.
I feel lost. Anyone have any practical advice on how to get us out of this hole I seem to have dug?
