Pureed? Mashed?
« on: December 31, 2012, 19:55:31 pm »
So I have been feeding DS1 mashed sweet potato and squash that I made (I forgot about the "need" to puree it)...does it really matter if it isn't pureed (so water added to make it a smoother consistency)?  He has easily eaten a few tbsp of the mashed from day one, so is there any reason to puree that I am missing?  (other than making it easier to swallow?)  He does have strong mouth muscles and the other day quickly drank 3.5oz from a straw sippy cup (he had been fighting drinking from the bottle yet again...)

Sounds fine to me. I've mashed some stuff for dd as well instead of pureeing it and she's already fine with thicker consistencies and lumps. :)

No worries at all. Lots of babies skip the puree/mash stage altogether. It's just about first tastes.

Thanks ladies!  I know it was a silly question, but this morning I started to think that maybe I was doing something "wrong", lol!  I tend to have those moments where I miss the obvious  ;)

We are like Anna says and didn't do purees or mash at all- it's all just about them being able to manage it in the mouth- something like pumpkin is going to be really soft so mashing- or offering in soft cooked sticks is great at 6 months!
