in need of a pep talk!
« on: January 03, 2013, 12:01:23 pm »
I have a 7 wo BF DS who is doing fabulously well, its me that needs the help!

Yesterday I noticed that my breasts were feeling super empty and super soft and DS started wanting to nurse every 2 hours again when had previously been 3 hourly, I'm sure that he is just starting to take more (he took a 5oz EBM bottle the night before when had only really been taking 3.5-4oz up till then) and my body needs to catch up hence the more frequent feedings but its so hard! After the third wake up in the night I just sat crying thinking how easy it would be to give in now and give him formula.

I don't want to give him formula and i'm sure its just the lack of sleep thats getting to me so i need some of you ladies to tell me it'll all be ok and I can do it!!  :)

Thanks  :)

You can do it! :)

I really found things settled down after about 8wo when the multiple growth spurts close together were less frequent, my supply was established and my boys were less sleepy meaning they took a full feed without falling asleep. The frequent feedings are your baby's way of telling your body to make more milk. They are very clever babies. Trust your LO and yourself and if you really want to EBF you can definitely do it.

*holding hand*, you've made it so far so what's another few weeks in the grand scheme of things.
You'll catch up on sleep one day - I hope -  looking forward to that day too, lol

What they all said - you CAN do this.  The more you feed now, the better for the future

TOTALLY this!! The first 3 months were really tough for us but once we got to 4 months everything had clicked into place and I was confident in what I was doing. You can do it hun and as others have aside you've given your DS such a great start already!  :-*

Thanks for your support guys, I feel like we are getting back on track but its been a tough couple of days.

We have nowhere to go today and no visitors coming round so we are planning to lie on the sofa and snuggle all day :)

most of my first few months were days like that!it was the only way i could survive! i didn't do well BFing in public (DD was SO nosey, even as an infant-it was so stressful trying to keep her latched & myself covered!) so we spent lots of time at home where i wasn't under any pressure to get it right first go, iykwim?i used to take her upstairs to my bedroom to feed her, where i had a lovely rocking chair....it was peace & quiet for us both on days when we had visitors etc etc!

You can do this!! Its so hard yet such a wonderful time too. Those early weeks are like fumbling around in the dark but you will soon enough have faith in yourself (well, your boobies!) and your bub. ((((((hugs)))))

weeks 6-10 were by far the hardest here too....both times.

Hugs and hope you're enjoying those snuggles. As my BFing days are a thing of ancient history now, I am very jealous (even of the growth spurts LOL).

My DD is 11 weeks and I'm starting to love breastfeeding! The same thing used to happen to me, especially in the evenings as she would cluster feed. She always seemed hungry and my breasts seemed empty, I just wanted to cry with frustration. I just let her feed, it was painful when it felt she was sucking but nothing coming out, but they are just making sure when they go through a growth spurt you have enough milk. It's supply and demand so your body will soon adjust to her feeding whether it be more and less. Try and get rest and drink plenty of water!! I also read somewhere porridge is good for milk production.
It does get easier, I've had bleeding nipples, mystytis, blocked ducts and I can still say I love nursing my LO

I totally agree with the PPs, you're in a rough part right now.  3 months was magic with all 3 of mine, it was smooth sailing after that.
