3-2 ? Some signs not others
« on: January 03, 2013, 19:33:21 pm »
DD is 5 months and 1.5 weeks old.  I am desperately fighting with at least one short nap each day on 2.5 hours A.  It makes for a juggling act as I still need the CN.  Do you think I should just go for it and go down to two naps to see how she makes out.  Currently some days her last catnap may end at 6 if she has half decent length naps.  She is not an independent sleeper,  I was hoping to wait intil she was on only two naps to tackle that.

Typical day:

7. Up
7:15 E

9:45. S ( some times 40, 1 hour, 1.5 hours)

11:00 Up

11:15 E

2:30 ( this is when I only get a 40 min nap)

3:15 E

5:15-6 Cn

7:30 E. Bedtime can take up to an hour to get her to sleep

Hi

Your first nap if under 1h20 is UT (30min is OT) so I would increase first a time by 5-10 min hold for a few days and see if you get a consistent restorative nap of 1.5h .

Have a look at these links then work on second a to get another good nap. At this age most Los are having 2x 1.5h naps and 1 45min CN. Or 2x 2-3hr naps and no CN which is where I think u want to be?

You can work on IS by using ssh pat to calm lo in cot and just use it less and less as lo adapts so it won't become a prop..hth!

I increased the time to 2 hr and 45 min.  Do you think I should try 3 hours as I am still getting 40 minute naps?  Do you think that seems long?  It would push her bottle back a bit.

How is he waking from naps and going down? If its cranky and upset then that would suggest OT. If not then UT or developmental...2h45 is high for a 5mo. have u seen the link I sent about a times?

Could he be OS before nap or anything developmental. Wih former keep last 30 min low key and wih latter you just have to ride it out...you can extend naps tho. Here's the link

How do I address habitual wakings? (wake-to-sleep and other methods)

Today she cried to go down yet woke up at the 40 min mark and hour for the last nap.  Each time woke up happy.  So confusing.  If it dev.  When does this change?

It can take a few weeks/months :/ try the methods to extend naps and if they work then at least it will indicate whether its developmental.

Or you could try cutting a time to see if OT is causing 40 min naps (can be OT or UT). So if u get a longer nap ull know a time is too high...

Ok this has been our easy for past three day.  Second nap does not extend and it is too long until bedtime.  Do you think I should just accept this for a couple weeks until she can handle three hours of A.  Do you think 1 hr 20 min, and two 40 min naps are enough if she is sleeping 11 to 11.5 hours at night?

Up 7
S 9:40 - 11
S. 1.:45 - 2:30
S. 4:50 - 5:30

Sleeping between 7:30 and 8:00.

Thanks as q really early BT isn't an option because of DS

Hi I'm not sure of exact figures but at this age she should be doin 2x 1.5h naps and CN. I posted links of daily sleep totals in pp. have u had a look at those? they should answer a lot of your questions...i think you're in an UT/OT loop. First nap is UT and cos of long a second and third nap are OT.

1h20 is still UT nap you need to extend that first a by 5-10 min and hold for 4-5days and repeat if nec till u get a 1.5h nap.
