when should i give lo more milk?
« on: January 05, 2013, 11:29:00 am »
My LO is sleeping 4.5 hours at night and he is 6 weeks old. Since I am dropping one feeding, should I be increasing his milk? This my first baby, any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

How many oz is your LO on now? Is he's draining bottles then add an oz is the general advice.

Are you attempting to wean a feed or is he sleeping through one that he wasn't before?

And yes, if he drains bottles, add an ounce as Shiv mentioned :)

He is drinking 3 - 3.25 ounces. Sometimes he drains the bottle but he will also fall asleep while feeding and we have to wake him up to finish it. I don't believe he would finish if we didn't wake him up. However,  when we did let him sleep rather than finish the bottle he would wake up early to eat again. Should I add an ounce to every feeding or just over the entire day?

Thank you for your reply!

You add an ounce to each feeding - given what he is being offered, I would make 4 ozs per feed and see how he does.

How long is he taking to finish a feed?  If you are trying to feed when he wakes from a nap, he should be able to remain awake for a feed without too much trouble during the day.
