Should I switch from hungry baby formula to normal formula?
« on: December 30, 2012, 08:43:14 am »
Hi there,

My ds1 was a big baby when he was born, 9lbs 7oz, and the normal formula never seemed to satisfy him. We put him on the hungry baby formula and it did the trick. Now with ds2 who is 10 weeks old, he did the same. Never seemed really content or settled after a feed. So we switched again to hungry baby formula. Again, it's done the trick. But I wonder now should I switch back? He's another big baby and at his last weigh in he was just over a stone! He's bit fat though but he is quite heavy. Is their a lot more calories in the hungry baby formula? His dad is 6"5 and both my sons are really tall for their age.

I just wonder should I continue or switch? What do you think? Thanks!

Hungry baby formula doesn't have any more calories than normal formula, it's just casein based instead of whey based which makes it harder to digest so they feel fuller for longer.

If Dad is big I would imagine the boys are following him - they will probably always be top of the charts, but someone's got to be! Their weight now is not always an indication of future size too - my DS was 13lb 11oz at 10 weeks (just looked it up!) and was pretty far up the charts, now, at just 6 he is not even 3 stone yet and is on the 2nd centile. I wouldn't worry about it, feed to their hunger and you won't go far wrong.

If he is draining the 7oz bottles you need to add another oz by the way!

Thanks Kara,

He's a complete charmer I have to say. And an awful messer even at this young age! Loves the ladies, has them wrapped around his little finger! 😉
