A few questions please help!
« on: January 10, 2013, 19:55:46 pm »
Hi all,
We are working on transitioning to a 2/2 as LO is 3mo 3weeks   Our EASY looks something like this

Wake 6:30 trying to extend
E 7
A 6:40 to 8:20
S 8:22-9:09 ( replace paci) 9:09-10:20

E 10:25
A 10:20-12:12 ( 1hr 52min)
S 12:12- 12:54(wake replaced paci) 12:57-1:16 then 1:22-2:05

E 2:08
A 2:05-3:44
S 3:40-4:30

E 4:55
4:55-6:15
S 6:45 but did not go down untill 8:45

Okay so my question is do you think the paci is a prop? And what should her A time be? If Paci is not a prop why is she waking at 45 min mark?

we did have 2 "good" days recently where she did 1hr 25min twice with no wake @ 45 min. Her A time on those days was 1hr 35 to 1 hr 40   She can go almost 4 hr between feeds but I don't think she is ready for 2hr A yet as she wakes at 30min with it usually screaming.

****  I posted originally on the prop board and she does go back down after I re place the Paci @ 45 min usually she goes back down right away and I only replace once. ****

**she was swaddled but had recently begun to break free, this does not seem to bother her so I am leaving both arms out with not much trouble **

If paci is a prop do I ditch I all together or can she have it during the day if she wants it?

Also What is my A time After a short nap or a very broken nap say (40 min and the 40 of pu/pd followed by 10 more min of sleep )

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, sorry you haven't had any replies here yet. I don't have any personal experience with a paci - does she need it to fall asleep? Or at night? At this stage, if you're just replugging once each nap time and it's otherwise not an issue, I don't think I'd worry about it unless you want to get rid of it anyway. Most LOs have trouble transitioning from one sleep cycle to the next at this age and 45 min naps are really common so it sounds like the paci is a good way to help her extend!

2hr A time might be a bit much - the average for 4 months is around 1hr45 to 2hrs. Maybe stick with 1hr45/50 for the first nap for 3-4 days, and see how she goes? If you get a 45 min nap, I would shorten the next A a little, perhaps by 15 mins. Not too much though, or the next nap might be UT ;) I'd shorten a bit more if it's a 30 min OT nap and you can't extend.

HTH

Thanks for your suggestions, it started to become an issue this week when I was replacing Paci 5/6 times for a nap after that I ditched the Paci so will see how it goes. Thanks for your input on A time I am always wondering how much to shorten A time when LO does a 30/45 min nap.

So the weekend was a bit rough but paci is no longer an issue and we introduced a blanket. However how long should I let he nap for? A time is 1hr40 min so should I cap at 1.5 or let her go 2hr if she wants it.

Okay but I feel like If I don't cap she will have over 5 hr of daytime sleep. Also when I go in to extend naps when she wakes after 40min how long do I stay in there doing SHh/patt after she calms down and isn't crying??

I wouldn't cap UNLESS you feel it's interfering with night sleep - if it is then maybe just cap the afternoon nap?

I only ever tried to extend for about 15 mins as I could generally tell by then if she was going to resettle or not. Otherwise I'd get my LO up and carry on with the day, but shorten the next A a little. Or sometimes if she wasn't upset I would leave her lying resting in the cot, and count this as half A time.

Okay so today's first nap was decent I went in at 30min mark placed hand on her gently and removed after a min or so, se went to 1.5 hrs! With a brief cry out around 1hr where she re settled herself. Last night was good with her falling back asleep un assisted from 1030pm on!!

So another question: when going in at the 30min mark how many days should you do it for? Also how long should I stay. I feel like she gets really worked up if I stay too long she is def a touchy baby. :)

Yay for a great nap!

With W2S (going in at 30 mins), do it for 4-5 days then try not going in and see if she can do it on her own.

Also how long should I stay. I feel like she gets really worked up if I stay too long she is def a touchy baby.

Not sure when you mean - if she wakes and you're trying to resettle? If she does better settling on her own, you can leave her if she's not crying. My LO would sometimes wake at 45 mins, mantra for a few mins and then go off again, and I was better to leave her to it because I disturbed her if I went in and tried to hep!

Well she went done at 645, after having her last nap end at 515. She was very tired and it took about 30-40 mins before she finally fell asleep. This has been her "thing" for he past two night. She will sleep till 945 ish wake up briefly mantra or chat and then sleep till 11 when she has DF. Then 11-1am wake 1-230 waken and mantra/ chat for about 10mins then it's almost every 45min to 1hr where she wakes and chats for a min/two. I don't have to go in at all she usually self settles for the past two nights   But it seems like she's up a lot o e night. It could just be for now but I wish she was sleeping sounder ykwim? She doesn't have any othe night feeds, bc from what I can tell she's not hungry( i think she would really cry/not settle at all if she was right?) She has 6-7oz per feed during the day and then DF.

So the 30 min nap monster was back this am. I did shh/patt and then 30min later she woke agin so I did it again and now she's asleep so we will see.  I know 30 min is OT but her A time today was only 1hr35min and she was asleep by 1hr40?
