When do you move from grow bag to blanket and pillow?
« on: January 14, 2013, 22:27:52 pm »
Hi there,

Just wondering this as my DS who is 18 months keeps taking off his grow bag at night. It's like it bugs him or something! I thought he may be too warm ( his dad is ALWAYS warm!) and that's why he's taking it off but it's too cold outside to turn the heating off. What age can I introduce a blanket or is he way to young yet?

Thanks x

DS was 2 but it was also summer. It was hard to get him to keep the duvet on him but since it wad summer, it wasn't a problem.  You might want to wait until its warmer to transition him.  Can you find the sleep sacs that have the zipper on the bottom (halo sleep sac)?  I think they are harder to break out of.

Yes I might wait until its a bit warmer and try it out. We do have one that has a zip so I prob need to invest in more of them. I might try those "frogs legs" ones. Are they good? My guy is quite big tall and strong so considering a strait jacket! ;)

I think Stan was about 20 months, we did a lot of practice during play time of how to lie down and pull a blanket up over himself! He got the hang of it pretty quick, and I'd go and  tuck him in at my bedtime.

Not sure if you have these but they have some here with openings for feet.

I suppose you would need either footed pjs or put some socks on but this type of sleep sack could provide more mobility.

We switched once he moved to his BBB around 20 months.  It was summer so he couldn't use his grobag anymore anyways as it was a 2.5 tog and his 1.0 tog was too small so it was good timing and worked well.  He had no patience to practice but it dind't matter much about the sheet staying on because it was hot and by the fall he was good with keeping it on.  We just made sure to buy one that was easy to wash!

Z kept taking his off and a few ladies here suggested sewing up the strap that domed up. Worked a charm ;) that said the zip is another story ::)

We use these: http://www.purflo.com/plain_sleepsac.php

He can't get out of them as the zip is concealed near his feet but off to the side. I can barely find it to dig him out of it in the morning  ;D

He still motors around the cot at night so he'll be in a sleepsac for a good while longer!

At 18 months L kept kicking her sleeping bag off so we switched to a blanket and had no probs (apart from a few callbacks to tuck in, but I think that was more her wanting us to come back rather than a real need for us to tuck in iyswim). At about 21 months (I think) we got L a pillow and at about 24 (when it started getting cooler) a duvet.

Haven't had any trouble and she really likes her 'grown-up' bedding.

Take her pillow with us when we travel and I think it helps her settle in new places cos it is same as at home

We take DS's pillow with us now too.  It's about the smae size as the grobag folded up so it fits well in a backpack for overnights at my paretn's place or wherever else we are travelling.
