7.5 months good morning nap/short afternoon nap help
« on: January 15, 2013, 23:23:17 pm »
Hello all!

I have 2 questions about my lo's sleeping patterns! My lo has been on a schedule since about 5 months and has been a good sleeper/napper. For about 3 weeks we had the perfect schedule and were getting two naps of 1.5 hours. For the past week we seem to be in a bit of a spiral where morning waking is 6 -6:15 instead of 7-7:30 and her afternoon nap is only 35 minutes. I can most times get her to sleep till 6:45 or 7 am with a bit of help. I've tried changing her awake time, lengthening it a bit but always the same wake time. Usually I can get her to sleep for another 5 minutes by patting her bum and then another 2 minutes of bum patting and another 5 minutes of sleep until I'm fighting her around the 1 hour mark to stop wiggling/opening her eyes/crying. She acts like she wants to sleep more but just can't settle to sleep. At the one hour mark I give up. This is her schedule right now

Wake up - ish 6:15
out of crib, WU and BF  7:00 with solids at 8
A
S 10:00 - 11:30/11:45              Always 3 hours A after wu
E 11:45 BF with solids at 12:30
A
S 2:45 around 3.25/3.5 hours A time
E 3:30 BF
   5:30 Supper
A 6:30 bathtime or quiet time
S 7:00  sleeps through the night or once in awhile re-tuck and kiss at 5:00 or so.

If she got up at 6:30, though, and had a 30 min. afternoon nap bedtime is 6:30 - possibly contributing to ew?

I have tried upping afternoon a time to 3h45m with the same 35 min. nap. She is learning to crawl right now which might be it? How can I help her as evenings are turning my textbook/angel baby into overtired and grouchy unless I carry her constantly.

Thoughts? Thank you!

If she does a good morning nap with 3hrs A time, could you try the same A before her afternoon nap?

I  did try only 3 hours, but unfortunately she woke after 25-30 minutes and was happy and not about to go back to sleep so  i figured classic UT. She has always done 10-15 mins more A time the second time after a good nap, also. =(

Maybe another little push in A time, then?

Well everything has been blown out of the water today as it seems! Maybe its the fact that I asked that everything has changed...

Bedtime last night was 7:00 pm
WU - 6:30
E - 6:45 bf, 8:00 solids
A - quiet play at home
S - 9:15 (only 2.75 A time, but falling asleep while playing so I put her to bed)
E - 10:45 - wake & bf, 12:45 solids
A - errands and play date
S - 1:55 3:20- tried a shorter A time because morning was shorter and worked like a charm!!?

Is this an extra tired day fluke? She hasn't had that short of A time since 5.5 months... Oh well, I will see how tomorrow goes and hopefully its the same!

Thanks!  :P

Lovely Erin M (Moderator on the NW's board) advised me that once LO's start getting more mobile, sometimes you need to pull back on their A's.  Maybe that's what's happening ??

Ya, I'm not sure. Se is definitely trying to be more mobile, rolling and crawling backwards a lot. She had a bit of a time getting to sleep last night, here was her easy today. A little bit messed up.

Bedtime - 7:15, didn't settle till 7:30 (usually asleep in minutes)
WU - 6:30 (a little early seeing as she went to bed later than normal.)
E - 6:45 Bf, solids 8:00
A - quiet play at home
S - 9:25- 10:25 (only an hour?)
E - 10:45 bf
A - errands
S - 12:05 - 12:50 (in car, was driving for ten minutes and fell asleep so I let her sleep for 45, that only happens when VERY tired...)
E - 12:45 solids
A - playdate but grumpy, due to tired?
S - 2:50 - 4:05 (only 2 hours A time and was a pretty good nap)
E - 4:10 bf, 6:00 solids
A - play at home
S - 7:20 in crib but didn't settle till 8:00 (was very hyper - too much napping?)

Maybe its just her being more mobile? Should I be keeping her awake for certain amounts of time in order to keep getting two solid naps, or is 3 shorter okay for now? she hasn't had three naps for a month and a half.
