tummy sleeping
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:26:34 am »
Hi Ladies:)

This may be a stupid question, but when can you go back to sleeping on your tummy?
I remember my hv telling me that as long as I BF I can't because the pressure can case blacked ducts.
We are down to 1 BF a day, sometimes a NF (and 3x bottles) because my supply just never picked up after an illness I had at New Years. I'm trying to keep plugging along as long as I can with at least this one feed but I would love to start sleeping on my stomach again.
This is the position I always found most comfortable and I haven't been able to sleep in since I was pregnant!

Hey Eva, I sleep on my tummy all the time and never get blocked ducts.
I guess you will want to be careful if you've dropped feeds recently but if your supply was low anyway there shouldn't be a problem.
I would think you would be able to feel any blockages and/or chills if you get any.

Now that M is 10mo I think you're well outside blocked duct zone! Lol

PS: missing you on the 10-12month board! ;)

Ok, thanks for the info. My friend got mastitis and ended up on antibiotics after a night on her tummy so that's why I've been a bit scared. Will sleep on my tummy tonight (yaaay)

PS: missing you on the 10-12month board! ;)

I'm a bit overdue, ups. Will make my way over soon:))

My midwife gave me a good tip: at the first sign of a blockage (flu-like symptoms chills etc) take a high doseage of vitamin c for a few days. Those times when I had shivers and chills from threatened mastitis it worked really well and was gone by the following day. :)

Second that! I sleep on my tummy and haven for ages... Actually did it to reduce engorgement at times :p just had to wear plenty of breast pads to soak up the leakage.
