Is this normal for 2-1 nap transition?
« on: January 31, 2013, 00:20:38 am »
DD is 21 months, and she's been doing 1 nap/day on and off for a few weeks. As of yesterday we have gone to 1 nap a day cold turkey. She wakes up around 6:30/7am (the norm was 7/7:30) and naps at 12pm. She did 1 hr 10 mins yesterday and 1 hr 30 mins today. She has had an EBT of 6pm both evenings and gone down no problem. So I'm wondering if having a longer night and shorter nap is just a phase or something that could stick. Yesterday she woke up crying, but today she happily played in her crib for 40+ mins until my son woke up crying which made her start crying. She's definitely tired by 12pm, but honestly, our afternoons are not that bad even after only a short nap.

Totally haven't BTDT (just starting on one nap ourselves) but from what I've read/heard it can take a little while for the nap to lengthen.

Hello! We just made it through the 2-1 about a month and a half ago. Our son went through the same thing, long night-shirt naps-early bed time. I asked for guidance too. It did work itself out as he body adjusted. It took a good solid month.

He went through all if the issues associated with the 2-1. Nws, early wakings, short naps, you name it! But we stuck with it like glue and now he's doing jyst fine.

Hang in there it will get better.

Same here - we cold turkey'd to one nap at 11 months (low sleep needs kids are awesome!) and it took a couple of weeks for the nap to push out to at least 2 hrs each day.. it was around 2.5 hrs for a few months with a 11-12 hr night, then slowly started moving to 2 hrs and needing it capped by 18 months.

Thanks for the support. Today's nap was 1.75 hours... we're making progress! I think it helped me to just go cold turkey and know what our days would look like, and it's also helping me mentally to know that it may take a while, but we're sticking to it and she will learn!
