He can take a couple minutes during the day to burp sometimes. I only burp him with him lying on my shoulder at night... during the day when I do this he is awake and often tilts back which may help him burp easier. I'll try sitting him up at night to see if that works. Last night I had him in his bouncer all night (often he's in his bouncer for an hour or so) and once he finally settled at 9pm, he went till midnight, then till 3am, and again until 6am. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, as he's been in his bouncer on many occasions...
If I put his mattress on an incline, he would slide down to the bottom. Unless the incline doesn't have to be much?

It only has to be enough that his head is higher than his bottom. Mums with refluxers who put them on an incline sometimes roll a towel in a U shape under LO's bottom (under the sheet so it's not dangerous) to hold them still on the mattress.

Thanks, I may try that some night but I actually have to remember before putting him to bed!!
Last night he fussed on and off until 11:15pm when I fed him. I managed to get a good burp out of him almost immediately, and he then went a beautiful 3 hour stretch! Then he woke up with a dirty diaper, and the next hour I fed him. Then he was up every hour after that feeding. I couldn't get a burp out of him after his feeding, but the next two wakings I got burps. But that doesn't explain the last two NWings after that :S
One day this will pass!

It's pretty important to get the burps out early so the gas doesn't work it's way down further in the gut and cause painful farts.

Any good techniques? I've tried sitting him upright with my hand under his chin for support, as well as having him draped over my shoulder but I can't seem to get this guy to burp at night! Last night he went one 2 hr. stretch and was up every hour after that.

Have you looked into silent reflux?

I had success with sitting DS on my lap facing away from me with a little pressure on his tummy and rubbing his back in a circular motion, up on his right down on his left. some people hav head success with LO sitting the same way but circling their body gently, a bit like what you do to keep a hula hoop up. Terrible description :-[ hope it makes sense.

Thanks, hopefully tonight we'll get better burps. I also put a wedge in his crib so maybe that will help. I suspected silent reflux when he was about 2 months old because he'd have screaming bouts in the evenings and often it was right after a feeding. I used the wedge too. But the thing is, he slept well at night back then. It's only from months 3-5 that it has been so bad. Also, the pediatrician said he probably had colic, not reflux, although my family doctor was willing to put him on meds but I wanted to be sure it was reflux before I went down that road.

Reflux symptoms tend to worsen up to about 4-5 months, so it could be that. If you were to trial meds for 2 weeks and he is much improved, you have your answer. That the issue remains now is another indication of reflux, as colic tends to resolve around 3 months.

After last night I am thinking it's just a prop issue. He always settles almost immediately, all it takes is a quick reswaddle and giving him the paci again. I wasn't able to burp him last night, but after his first NWing following feedings I was able to get burps so I'm almost certain that isn't the problem. But I have no energy to try weaning him from the paci :(

How's his dexterity? Logan was replugging by himself around 5 months. You could give him the dummy to play with during the day and let him figure out how to get it in his mouth...

He is able to pull it out no problem, in fact he will often unswaddle himself and do just that. But getting it back in is still something we're trying to work on.
